@astro -

So in your current state your getting to similar finals that we are but managed to win a league cup? Whilst finishing mid-table and not competing in europe. I don't know how you can possibly think that Liverpool are on the same level as Arsenal at the moment or in the recent past, let alone how you seem to think that Liverpool are actually doing better than Arsenal.... It really is incredible that someone can be that biased :P It's like me trying to say we are currently doing better than Utd... Just plain not true.

We can afford to top 120k a week for a key player if we are dishing out 40-50mil in transfer fee. We currently have space for 3-4 players on 100-150k a week afaik, more if we clear the last of the deadwood from the squad. So offering him a better financial package wouldn't be an issue for us.

Because even in our current state we are still making finals and winning trophies. If your mind is boggled it is because you are in the unique position of supporting the only club in the world that thinks budget sheets and qualification rounds are comparable to trophies in the cabinet. That's some heavy cognitive dissonance for the human brain to handle.

Winning trophies = fluking past Cardiff on penalties in the Carling Cup? <laugh> You've won naff all in the same time as us. You could mention the FA cup you won one year after our drought started too.

And what finals? And how does that count?

@enigma - with rumours of the owners wanting to settle up - selling Suarez might put the books in a better position to get a good price for the club... ;)

Are you mentally stable?

No offense but we've rejected a bid above that and have demanded 50mil+ for a slim chance of you signing him.

Personally Id rather sell to Madrid for 40mil than to Arsenal for 50mil....All your eggs seem to be in one basket. Whereas we've already signed some great (but unproven PL players) and also have the possibility of the Suarez money to splash out on.

It's pretty much a win win situation for Liverpool as we signed Suarez about 2 years ago for 23mil. So double bubble for us :)

What makes you think Madrid will pay 40m? If they decide that's above their valuation, then sorry for you. It's sell to Arsenal or keep, they latter looking close to impossible. I think the trend here is to overrate your own players to such an extent that you have a false perception of their value. Owners have no concept of market value, see Carroll 35m, Drowning 20m, etc etc etc. If we don't get Suarez there are other strikers, as yet unknown but Wenger is noted for taking anonymous talents and turning them into stars.

Astro..."we lost the league a little less than you did"?....is this why your lot are practically ejaculating at the thought of making it into the top 4? ...ie getting to a level we've been at consistently for well over a decade?

It's no trophy but sure means more than a fluky win over Cardiff.....the league never lies....we have been consistently better than you for many years now.

Also it's been nearly a quarter of a century since you last won the ultimate prize....the league (and never the modern premiership)

If they don't we'll keep him, simple.

All I know for sure you'll need to pay 50-55mil to get a sniff of him coming to you.

Don't take this the wrong way, but all of this is 'as things stand' and it's what Liverpool have to be seen to be saying at the moment. But if Suarez hands in a transfer request, or if he pushes for PL arbitration to settle the clause in his contract then I think you are going to have to be realistic about selling him somewhere around the 4Om - 45m mark

True, what they say and what is actually the case are two different things. I think Suarez is not exactly happy at Liverpool, to put it mildly. No CL and bad relations with media are some of the reasons cited. No Real reason to remain there. See what I did there.
If there is news, I think will happen after the pre-season tour so not getting my hopes up for now.

I wonder if suarez was one of the names in brendan rogers 3 envelopes last season, maybe that's the real reason he wants to leave <whistle>

Madrid will not pay over 30M. Of course we might do a deal with Madrid where after they buy him for 30M they just sell him straight on to us for 35M.

I am pretty sure Suarez being a true c**t will barge his way out of LFC if he really wants it. You can not force a player to play for you if he does not want to. Even more so if it is Suarez.
You may think that with 3 years on his contract Liverpool controls the situation, but in reality it is much more complicated. I am sure Suarez is pissed off beyond belief with Liverpool interpretation of his contract release clause and the story does not end here.
I think Arsenal said to Pere:"You told us that 40 mln plus bid will trigger the transfer, now it is your turn to prove that it is the case".

I do agree, we might not be on the same level at the moment. However, how you can possibly think that in the recent past Arsenal are more successful than Liverpool, you are greatly deluded.

Yeah, because Madrid would be interested in associating themselves with dodgy Arsenal deals for the sake of £5m minus taxes and fees <doh>

The only way you are getting Suarez (which is also the only chance of you signing any good player this window) is by paying soemthing in the region of £48m - £56m, depending upon how late you leave it and it becomes increasingly obvious Wenger has no other options and will be crucified if he doesn't spend big after all the talk of £100m+ available.

Yes it is complicated; he is banned, so we will be playing without him anyway for the start of the season. This is a world cup year, so if he want to be selected for that he will need to show he deserves to get back into the team after his ban ends.

Even if it ends up costing us ten million or so to bench him, that is better than letting another PL team get him. Pay big or **** off <ok>
