Higuain has been sold. Suarez to Madrid would give the Poool easy money to buy Soldado.
With that Aug 3 deadline on first refusal, it appears that Valencia will Levy our Daniel to
    prevent the Poool getting Soldado.

Swansea have slapped a £30m valuation on him.

Just thinking aloud here, but I can't be alone in wondering the reason Real suddenly went from entertaining bids of £25m for Higuain to suddenly jacking the asking price up by a further 50% might have something to do with out (quote-unquote) special relationship? Say, for the sake of argument, they have given us first refusal on any of their players - but jack the price up on them so we won't be able to pay the fees they want?

It does seem suspect - and unsurprising, if I'm on to something here...

Don't think I'm saying I believe it either for one second mate! I'm just relaying what was doing the rounds on Twitter. If there's anything we should all have realised by now its that Twitter 'ITKs' are never even 10%, let alone 100% reliable or realistic!

Michu signed a 4 year contract in January Spurm so he'd command a considerable fee, although the same can be said of any half decent striker these days regardless of contract situation. Were there rumours earlier in the summer of him falling out with Laudrup, or am I getting my wires crossed? Thinking about it actually Laudrup fell out with the board or something like that I think. Anyway he's on a new long term contract at a club clearly on the up - I don't think he's exactly going to be desperate for a move either.

EDIT: also what hbic said :D

Probably easier than getting Levy to agree to that

I dont think Michu is the answer.

Not the right type of player - he's more of an attacking midfielder (hence they signed Bony to play ahead of him)

Is that on top of the actual transfer fee?

That's ridiculous - Harry Redknapp said lots of things during his time with us but agents killing the game was up there with his most truthful.

  10. If Levy doesn't pay it, 'Pool's Yanky owner will, out of pure desperation to get someone in, when Goofy hands in his transfer request.

I know alot of people here don't think the Scotland -> Premier League thing works with strikers but the way Hooper scores his goals - 100% penalty area poaching, right place, right time, smart runs and deadly finishing would have suited us perfectly.

For £5m he wouldn't be a starter but could have provided competition for Defoe and Ade at the very least - or let us sell one of Defoe and Ade to help bring in a few more £m

I compeltely agree we shouldnt risk it on a player from Scotland who beats every player for pace, strength or skill there, or can tear scottish defences apart with their passing or boss the midfield against Dundee. But Hooper has shown his true talent where it doesn't matter who the opposition is - instinct.

I agree TJ, I see the point about the SPL being **** but he looks like a natural goal scorer to me. I wouldn't be surprised if he rips the championship apart.
My biggest concern would be why he has settled for the championship rather than his ability.

    Spurs fan too I believe

I wouldn't have complained about hooper as backup. Same with remy. Both "will do", IMO.

Twitter "ITK's" seeming to think that there will be news on soldado today, as the deal is getting close.

    Edit:

Also this from the reliable goal.com

    http://www.goal.com/en/news/11/transfer-zone/2013/07/25/4141065/-?

The 20-year-old says the striker will be missed if he decides to leave the Mestalla for Spurs and that he must now decide if he is to stay or depart for the Premier League

Valencia midfielder Bernat says he wishes Roberto Soldado "the best" if he decided to leave the club to join Tottenham.

Goal understands Spurs are confident of sealing a deal for the striker with Soldado keen to push for a move to White Hart Lane.

Bernat, meanwhile, says Soldado will be missed at Valencia if he opts to move to the Premier League, but says he will go with his blessing.

"They are negotiating now. I wish him the best, he must decide. We know he has had very good seasons in Valencia, he has given us so much," he told reporters.

"If he stays we know he will help a lot because he scores many goals and that's good for the team; if he leaves I wish him the best."

Soldado scored 24 goals in La Liga last season as Valencia finished the season in fifth place.

There does some to be more serious intent by Spurs to sign a striker (at last). Is Soldado the man we have all been crying out for (He's had a few clubs) has anyone seen much of him play? Let's have your thoughts.

Only seen a few games. Most recent being in the Confed Cup where he scored.

Very impressive goal record in my opinion.

And the way I see it, is he can't be any worse than Ade or Defoe.

There are many strikers worse than A & D that's the point for me.

if ade and defoe both stay fit and at least 1 of them is on form at a time then it would be difficult and very expensive to improve upon. The problem is that first word.

Prehap's Soldado providing Competition would make the other two make sure they are on top form, espically Ade

Yeah granted but touch wood we're not looking at anyone worse than them two, otherwise I'd be worried.

Soldado seems to be a step up and I hope we can bring him in.

Failure to get him, I wouldn't mind seeing one of: Cisse, Ba, Remy, Damiao, Lopez, Gomis arrive. They're not better but I'd say on par with Ade and JD, so at least it'll mean having another option if one or the other is misfiring. That was a huge problem last season, we never had that 3rd option to use when Ade and JD were in a goal drought. We're lucky Bale stepped up to a new level.

I would hope so, but the more pessimistic side of me would say that Ade will take one look at his position and price tag and will assume (probably rightly) that Soldado will likely be the number 1 and his head will drop.
