What's going on up front has been THE QUESTION and we have all been asking it for sometime. Now at least Spurs seem more intent on trying to do something about it.

Yep. Just a shame it's been about 4/5 years in the waiting.

:D Perhaps Heskey was a bit OTT!

Yeah see what you're saying but with the higher quality of players, shouldn't they be smart enough to know where their team mates will lay on the chances? I don't expect every chance created to be converted but I'd say on average we must make about a good 8-9 chances a game, sometimes a lot more and yet to usually end up with just one goal from a striker (plus the wonder striker from Bale) you'd have to question what's going wrong up front.

This is the other thing that annoyed me about Ade. With 1-up you need that guy to get in the box some. Ade quite often looked liked he didn't want to be in the position to score. Thats a confidence thing, but you are better off being there and missing (and getting a few in like in the EL) than fannying about on the wing.

But was he told to do this? The Bale thing?

If we got to the end of the window and had signed Wolfspenis and Hooper i would have considered that a decent bit of business. Good on Norwich.

I would have been very disappointed if we had set our sights as low as a striker from Celtic. Look how good an over the top Keane looked in the SPL.

I'm not sure, he did so often it looked like a plan.

I guess we'll never know.
All i know is that when he was in the box he put away some important, opportunistic goals. There was a header vs someone and THE goal against Inter for example.
Maybe he was told to do it, but i think the balance was wrong. Bale is only likely to wonder-strike once a match (which is pretty bloody good) whereas the number of chances flashed across the box to nobody or loose balls in the box that fell to nobody last season was, frankly, ridiculous.
Also, the number of quick counters that had to be halted/delayed due to not having one player in the box was criminal. Thats our bread and butter, or has been.

How many games were tighter (eg, 1 goal wins) than they should have been? How many points did we drop when we should have won (fulham)?

What's happened in Scotland, all the great players they used to produce, now there's none!

They're working on it, they have opened a number of indoor fooball centres. The youngsters are indoors with their ipods and playstations instead of out in the streets playing ball. Worse in Scotland because of the rain.

I think the plan is to pass the ball to team-mates: not waste it by speculative crosses into the box. I think our players were mostly in the right place but we've still not grown out of the English disease of pointless crosses. It really annoys me when commentators say - "that was a great cross - why was no-one in the box anticipating it'. No it was just a rubbish pass! Crosses look exciting but they rarely lead to goals.

True, but do you know one thing that definitely doesn't lead to goals?
Working yourself into a position out wide or around the box and then having nobody in the box to use or finish it and then losing it. I've never seen that work :-)

If there is a first refusal option, it's pretty simple - give us Bale and we'll lower the price for Higuain. Don't give us Bale, we'll jack it up beyond your means.

I don't see how that would affect the selling price to Napoli though? I think more likely is they were prepared to sell to Arse for £25m and then Napoli flogged Cavani for ridiculous money and declared an interest (or declared an interest before selling) and Real saw the opportunity to make some extra dough.
I don't think we are after any Real players as any deal would surely include something about Bale before it went ahead.

Also, a first refusal option seems an almost worthless thing to have considering the number of Real players that would be willing to come to us who are actually good enough.

Cavani moving to PSG has nothing to do with it - they jacked up the price from £25m to £35m while Arsenal were still in negotiations, which sure as hell looked suspect.
