They can have Suarez for £40m + The Emirates stadium, they can keep the atmosphere <whistle>

Another nothing article: "can hold talks", "will be allowed to hold talks"

We all knew he could and was allowed to with that £40+ bid - whether he actually does is a different matter.

Be interesting to see where these talks are going to take place and who is going to conduct them. I haven't heard that Liverpool are putting on a plane home.

Probably means ****all, most players/clubs talk without permission anyway.

Ben Smith ‏@BenSmithBBC 18m
@SteveJacksdad don't think it will be long before they come to the table. And that will change everything

(Referring to Madrid)

smith is just adding things up. its a theory just like my theories... only time will tell.

I think he's seeing arsenal allowed to talk to the guy and napoli giving real a now reported 34.5mil for higuin and he's forgetting about bale who is in marca every other day... in this case real could turn up or not. the guy is just throwing it out there and hoping it sticks

reality is in australia everyone is asleep still so we won't be hearing much for another 4-6 hours from the camp.

its ALL gravy, 40mil is all the guy is worth cos he's trouble. he's a troubled genius and if we extract 50mil out of him from anyone its great. Arsenal aint the guys first choice guys so just hang in there and wait cos it might just draw on a bit.

£40m and Alonso <ok>

What a one-sided analysis that is!

You are right when you say that it is not just the letter but also the intent of contractual terms that are important when considering contractual disputes. However a contract of this complexity will almost certainly contain and undertaking detailing the place and law that will be applied to any arbitration process should a dispute arise regarding the terms or performance of the contract.

I really don't understand why you should even suggest that LFC would engage in contractual practices based upon deception. There is no evidence of that. The club, to the best of my knowledge have never been accused of engaging in such procedures. You comment is in effect a slur.

As for the understanding of Suarez and his agent then it is their responsibility to know and understand the terms and conditions of the contract that they are signing no matter what language it is written in.

Well maybe one-sided, but I figured there wouldn't be a shortage of people willing to take up the other side on here :).

The point remains that this is a fairly complicated situation and there are probably a lot of circumstances we don't understand. I don't really understand the press coverage though.

On one hand we have the Fabregas saga where neither the player nor the club seem the slightest bit interested and there is the added complication of a contract clause possibly enabling Arsenal to cut in. In this case we were told by the press that Manchester United were odds on to sign him and that there must be some reason that United kept at it.

On the other hand there is the Suarez saga where he seems to be angling for a move, and seems to have something in his contract that might help facilitate a move at 40M, but apparently Arsenal are somehow nuts to consider it.

We will see how it works out, I have to say I am not going to get bent out of shape if we get him or not. He is definitely a top player, but he does come with a few drawbacks.

Just got in from work and have just watched that awesome rendition of "you'll never walk alone" sung by 90000+ at the MCG. That alone should convince Suarez to stay. No where in the world would you get that for any other team and to see it in Australia after the fantastic atmosphere in Jakarta the other night should show him the size of this club. Sorry arsenal fans but no way would you have got that reception. It gave me goosebumps so cant imagine what it felt like for the players.
If he's going to go make it Madrid not bloody arsenal for goodness sake.

It is interesting that when there is uncertainty we will go for the option we most favour and disregard the one which is more realistic. Some tend to lose all sense of logic.

How did Arsenal know of the £40m clause? Surely liverpool didn't tell them. It would have been Suarez and his agents. Liverpool turn the offer down flat out. But apparently arsenal are aware they can talk to the player under the contract. How would they know that and why would the Suarez team insist on that being carried out? The reason is that Suarez WANTS to leave and he no longer wishes to play for Liverpool. Sounds unpalatable to the supporters but in the cold light of day Suarez wants to leave to play for another CL club.

Personally I'd like Suarez to stay at Liverpool. Wenger is no mug. He has realised that with Suarez his team will be more ruthless and gain that extra hard edge to win trophies. Arsenal will become a bigger title threat while Liverpool will not only lose a key player but give the wrong signal.

That was briefly discussed earlier but I pointed out that any case against them would be easy to defend...it was all over the media <ok>

Truthfully, do YOU think that Suarez wishes to leave in order to play CL football?

And who briefed the media if not the Suarez team?

Can't really answer that because there have been no direct quotes. He does want to play CL football and I think he does want to leave, whether the two go hand in hand is slightly different IMO <ok>

I reckon Suarez will want to go where he has a chance of winning the CL and the league, not arsenal so.

If he goes to Arsenal for CL football, that will be exactly what he is saying in two years time and his agent probably knows it. when he joined us, Luis said he wanted to play for Real or Barca, can't see why that will have changed.
