assuming we get Fer, then another striker and we are looking pretty good to go i'd say.
an attacking CM would be a nice to have.
to go into the main pre-season with 4 new additions (excluding garrido) is good news

As the Toivonen signing isn't going to happen and Hooper looks less likely, who do you think we should be looking at now?

if you were in toivonen's shoes, you'd probably make the same decision. you have to realise that he is a very good, international player, who has been a regular champions league and europa league performer. a move to norwich might sound great to us because we know and love the club but to a swede who doesn't, he'll be sceptical. he'll have checked us out. he'll have seen we were in the third tier four years ago. he'll have seen that we've only spent two consecutive seasons in the top flight. he'll see we've not been close to winning anything. he'll see we've not even featured in the top half of the table since 1994! he'll think quite rightly based on reputation, that a bigger club would be likely to come in.

don't blame the lad at all and cannot for the life of me understand the reaction of some posters. take the norwich city headphones off for one second and you'll hear you sound a bit daft. i'd have loved to see him here as he's much better than what we currently have but if he doesn't feel the move is right then he's made the right decision. it would have been a massive risk for him - much less of a risk for us. likewise, the same could be said for alderweireld but he seems to be getting stick even though he hasn't ruled out a move here! he's been chased by liverpool, spurs and leverkusen. of course he doesn't want to jump straight into a move to norwich! he's a wanted man. doesn't mean he won't come here, nor does it mean he's a bad egg for wanting the best for himself.

Not sure who this is aimed at, but my point was that, although he has every right to go where he pleases, we could do without all the public put-downs, it's not clever.

I don't like the sound of him (my opinion only), and happy for him to look elsewhere.

hooper is still our no.1 target isn't he? of course we will have other pans in the fire. i don't know who else to suggest fenland, there will be names that aren't in the media domain for sure. I think we will continue to go european.

It's a bit worrying that it's gone all quiet and we don't seem to have any new links to players.

but what about players we are looking at that the media are unaware of? remember the jonny howson signing? that came from nowhere.

I wouldn't worry, we have strengthened GK, LB, LW, FW and hopefully CM positions already; Fer and RvW are a major upgrade to our squad quality (hopefully)

I wouldn't argue we've strengthened our strikers, simply because we now only have two. I think having three strikers is essential (four would be nice, but might be overkill and prevent Carlton Morris getting game time in the league cup) for next season and it is therefore imperative that we sign one more. If RvW doesn't quite live up to expectation (or gets badly injured), as it stands, we could really struggle. Other than that, I would say we are just about there - especially if the Fer transfer comes off.

Rob, that's a fair point on the strikers. I guess we don't know how good rvw is yet
re carlton morris, what about jamar loza? he is in the development squad - don't know too much about him but he should stand a chance of a cup game too i'd have thought

Having said that, Vital Football says they are no longer interested:

and if we got him for 4/5m would be with in our price range, I personally don't know much about him, good player?

He can play either wing, and I believe Spartak Moscow have played him just behind a striker sometimes. I'd take him, although we would have an awful lot of competition on the wings if we did get him.

Sorry, yes, I was just meaning an example. Loza and the Murphy brothers would probably be ahead of Morris, but any junior player who is worth testing at a higher level needs to have space above them..

Aiden McGeady anyone?

Boom. Called it:

Aiden McGeady could be set for a return to British football after Spartak Moscowgeneral director Roman Askhabadze revealed that the Russian club are prepared to let the former Celtic winger go. He said: “Spartak is ready to consider any proposal for the player. If it is interesting for us from a financial point of view, we will begin negotiations with the club.” SNN

McGeady is a Wes-like player. Short and skillful, probably a bit better decision maker. He got a big money move to Spartak on the back of an excellent season at Celtic. I suspect his wages may be a bit on the high side but would be an improvement for us IMO.

Missed the Ireland vs Faroe Islands match, was he any good?, says he played in that match on Transfer Markt, anyone see that game?

Watched that as an Ireland fan, and thought he was very impressive. Was Robbie Keane's night, and Wes had a stormer, would put McGeady after those two. Terrorised the full back, and was positive all the way through the game. Substituted late on.

Wouldn't mind him here at all.

it wasn't aimed at any individual, it was aimed at anyone who is claiming him to be a 'tainted character' based on a few snippets they've read. he's never put our club down - never - yet some fans have deluded themselves into thinking he has! just because he feels worthy of a higher level of club does not suddenly mean he's obnoxious or greedy or the kind of player we don't want. he's exactly the type of player we want, it's just too early down the road for us to secure a player like that every time we bid for one. not everyone will want to come here - that doesn't make them a bad character.

no doubt if alderweireld doesn't come off, he'll get tarred with the same brush even though everything he's said in public has been sensible and actually quite encouraging.
