Very happy with the Fer deal. Seems were getting a proper star in the making. Hopefully he is good enough for Hughton to go with just one DM and free up more attacking options, whether that be 2 strikers or an extra attacking midfielder! I'm stilling holding out hope for the Hooper deal to happen. If the Toivonen deal has fallen through, not sure who we could get for another CAM position, though with Fer in you'd hope Howson would be allowed to play that role!
Yes but some were suggesting we go for Mark Schwarzer, and he's 40. No problem with that, either would be a good back up.
Busy competition across the whole of midfield now. Surely we will be letting someone go if we're seriously in the market for an improved CAM option (as well as striker and maybe CB). Does that mean danger for Hoolahan?!.. or simply making way with one of the wide players Bennett / Surman? I appreciate it's an improvement we're looking for but we are not short of midfielders. Lost track of where are against the 25 squad limit.
Paper in Holland saying Fer will be presented tomorrow aslong as talks go well today. Surely after a medical, talks would be complete? This does seem really odd to me...
Sounds like a lucky escape for us. We want players who want to come here and make the club great, not the other way around.
if you were in toivonen's shoes, you'd probably make the same decision. you have to realise that he is a very good, international player, who has been a regular champions league and europa league performer. a move to norwich might sound great to us because we know and love the club but to a swede who doesn't, he'll be sceptical. he'll have checked us out. he'll have seen we were in the third tier four years ago. he'll have seen that we've only spent two consecutive seasons in the top flight. he'll see we've not been close to winning anything. he'll see we've not even featured in the top half of the table since 1994! he'll think quite rightly based on reputation, that a bigger club would be likely to come in. don't blame the lad at all and cannot for the life of me understand the reaction of some posters. take the norwich city headphones off for one second and you'll hear you sound a bit daft. i'd have loved to see him here as he's much better than what we currently have but if he doesn't feel the move is right then he's made the right decision. it would have been a massive risk for him - much less of a risk for us. likewise, the same could be said for alderweireld but he seems to be getting stick even though he hasn't ruled out a move here! he's been chased by liverpool, spurs and leverkusen. of course he doesn't want to jump straight into a move to norwich! he's a wanted man. doesn't mean he won't come here, nor does it mean he's a bad egg for wanting the best for himself.
We´re well shot of both of them if that´s how they feel, I´ve had my doubts about Toivonen right from the start, because of his iffing and butting, and Alderweireld sounds just the same, sounds as if they´d both cause ructions within the camp. No thanks!
This is part of the Norwich City syndrome that sees us feature as perennial relegation favourites after the three promoted side. It's peoples perceptions of us as much as anything.Logically with Ruddy back in goal,RvW up front and a raft of potential signings we should not be fourth favourites for the drop.I expect that in three weeks time when the national pundits get home from swigging Barolo in Tuscany we will feature strongly in the predictions for 18th,19th and maybe even 20th places. This is exactly the same thinking in reverse that sees England priced as favourites in international games against sides like Germany and Holland. Info: We are listed as fourth favourites at 11/4 against,Stoke are next at 10/3.Interestingly though we don't feature amongst the five most popular bets which suggests that the majority of punters regard us as poor value at the price,Stoke are by some distance the most backed side for the drop.Good ol' Sparky!
I actually agree with supers on this. We may be making great strides forward and you can't fault the ambition, but to outsider we may still appear to be little old Norwich, look at the ongoing attitude of other fans and the media in respect to our audacity at going after the players they think belong at their clubs. We'll get there but some players will want to see us Walk the Walk not just talk of our ambitions. Let us not forget if he watched back any of last season (a few games accepted) he will not have been terribly impressed! Bah!
...but if he just looked at the league table and results and saw that we beat United, Citeh and Arsenal he might be more impressed
As others have said, we want playesr who want to come to play for the Canaries and fight for the team and to be in the starting 11 most weeks and if someone is taking time deciding whether or not it is a good move for them - then I'd rather they went somewhere else and spent most of their time sitting on the bench. RvW has exactly the attitude that we want and we want to sign more players like him!!! VERY pleased with our acquisitions so far and would like to see Fer and a striker come in to complete the picture.
Irrespective of that Melchy, Toivonen sounds like a real prima donna, and PSV are getting fed up with him too, hanging around waiting for him to make up his mind - doesn´t strike me as being the sort we need.
by all accounts, PSV would like to offer him a new deal. they love him. it was the player who wasn't sure of the direction the club was heading who was worried because they are selling good players and not playing to his strengths. a lot of ****e has been said about him being a primadona and it's basically bollocks. he had genuine concerns and good players want to make sure they are doing the best they can in the best scenario possible.
assuming we get Fer, then another striker and we are looking pretty good to go i'd say. an attacking CM would be a nice to have. to go into the main pre-season with 4 new additions (excluding garrido) is good news
