I can't believe we'll let holty go until we have at least confirmed another striker in. We will now be known by selling clubs to be short on strikers and as the window progresses increasingly desperate. Not the greatest negotiating position. Let's face it in January we were clearly after a striker and ultimately priced out and seemingly panicked into getting Becchio, a player CH seemed to have no will to play. History could repeat its self here. If hotly goes I could c Celtic saying well it was 6m we want 7 now!
    Bah!

His a legend but his diva like behaviour last year severely pissed off a lot of fans. Hope his glad now he is closer to home, one day he might reflect on the time he had time at this club.

Gutted as I am I think this heralds a new order in the dressing room and CH stamping more of his mark on the team. I don't think Holt and VW would have 'clicked' off the field which is as important as on it. Holt's legendary status remains intact, for the most part, and we look to build around new talismen. I still think we have great leaders in Russy and Bassong, and perhaps we are in with a better shout of playing to CH's perceived tactics than last season. Holt will be happy with a move closer to his wife and kids, geta bit of European footie under his belt and score against Ipswich again. Love the man, but best for all parties IMO.

Have we any reason to believe they wouldn't have clicked off the field? That's a strange comment. I'm also happy to see CH make his mark on the team, if that doesn't work, THEN we can criticise him.

Agree with the rest, and good luck to Grant.

I'm sure we will get at least 1 more striker in before the end of the season (maybe even 2).

I know the news has come as a shock but some of you seem to be acting like selling Holt means we plan on never buying another striker ever again.

Has everyone forgotten its only 7 days into the transfer window?

Dear me, don't fret, panic or whatever everyone, a great servant who is coming to the end of his career is moving on to pastures new. The transfer window has only just been opened we WILL sign at least two strikers before it closes. In fact it wouldn't surprise me if at least one new recruit isn't announced in the next couple of days.
IF Holt had stayed, he would no longer have been as talismanic as his mantle and crown is being passed to RVW. For Holt and RVW, think Rooney and RVP, I rest my case. Players come and go, managers come and go, directors come and go, owners come and go, the only constant at any football club is it's fans, us. I say thankyou Mr Holt, if it hadn't been for you God knows where my beloved club would be now I wish you well. I will remind you all that regardless of what any player or manager has done for this football club of ours, there is ABSOLUTELY NO ROOM FOR ANY SENTIMENT WHATSOVER IN THE MODERN GAME. Football is, unfortunately, more of a business nowadays rather than the game it once was. Survival of the fittest, that rewards success with untold riches and because of this when any player is no longer seen as being able to move the club forward he is discarded and new blood is brought in, harsh yes but it is a fact <ok>

I think it\s based on The King Losing His Crown...he's a proud man Mr Holt, and the Shakespeare in me only foresaw a tragedy unfolding

Considering Mr Holt has been given leg-end status at our football club, it ain't half quiet on here tonight with news of his departure. Surely it's not because 'jolly foreigner Murray mint' has won Wombledon ;)

Could you possibly direct us all to the statement (or statements) by Chris Hughton in which he blames Holty for our lack of goals? I have no recollection of any such statement(s). What I do remember is several statements defending Holt against unfair criticism aimed at him by people who apparently hadn't noticed that Holt was being asked to play a different role this year, or that we were playing with just a single striker. I also recall Chris Hughton saying, correctly, that "we" weren't being clinical enough with our finishing, the "we" referring to the team as a whole. I myself cannot recall him ever "blaming" Grant Holt (or any other player for that matter) for our lack of goals. <ok>

you can't expect carrabuh to realise that robbie. everything is Hughtons fault, even the tea not being hot enough on match days.

Is Grant Holt not a part of the "we" then? Is it NCFC + Grant Holt.

The gripe is he was blaming missed chances when the real issue was chances created, he was deflecting blame to others when it lay with him.

    That's not a characteristic I appreciate.

    OK goldeneadie

You describe to me the style of play of last season, and why it failed so very badly, particularly towards the end and very nearly sent us down.

You tell me where the players failed on a personal level, what was it they were not doing that the manager asked them?

If Hughton is such a good manager why was it only after such a prolonged period of truly wretched form in both points and performance did he finally push the button to play more positively.

It probably took at least 10 games to late before the penny finally dropped.

You tell me Goldeneadie (and Robbie), how is Chris Hughton going to set us up to play next year?

I'll tell you one thing, not a single one of our signings or players we seem to be looking at indicate any change whatsoever.

    Just more of the same.

Carrabuh, I was one of Hughton's biggest critics last year but now he has a clean slate, his own team if you like. If it's all going Pete Tong again after 6-10 games that is the time to say 'enough is enough'. CH appears to be either signing or trying to sign a much better calibre of player to push us on next year, let's stick together, get behind him and the team and see where it leads us <ok>
