I do get that, and agree with your comments about Holt too. The chances the tactics will improve are good though, aren't they? New players coming in, etc etc. I'm thinking positive for the new season.
If anything, I'd like to think selling Holt is a sign we're not looking to play long ball football next season, as RvW is far from a target man. Now we may now sign some 7ft bloke and reverse that impression, but I think so far there's more to suggest we're looking to get the ball on the deck more. Looking at recent names linked, Toivonen has specifically said he wants to play in a team that plays that way, and Fer seems to be a ball-playing DM from what Cove has said. That looks promising to me.
You know the other week there was that picture of Holt at his kids sports day and he looked fairly trim, do you think that was because he knew then he was no going to be at Norwich this season and would need to pass a medical?
Thought I would post this, @BethnalYG: Holt to Wigan = good deal for everyone. Ruddy to Chelsea = bad deal for everyone. Bethnal is a good follow on twitter, works a football writer covering Japan, but is a city fan so has good knowledge of the game and its working. Does not come out with silly rumours. He also post on the pink un too.
I wonder if this was all part of the deal done last summer, not going to a specific club but give us one more year, we'll give you a better deal and look to get you a move up north the following summer...
I'm a bit sad to see him go - it's the end of an era. But, he's not getting any younger and the EPL is relentless. Each season, the bar is higher. So I guess it makes sense and I wish him every success.
I don't understand all the bitching.Holt has been brilliant for us for four seasons but has always had a hankering for T'North.I see this move as largely being self driven and it looks like it will be good for him and Wigan and possibly us as well.I don't see it as a reason to bash Hughton.I keep saying this,he wasn't my first choice but give the bloke a chance. To say our ten match run last season was luck is as illogical as saying the bad run was equally down to bad fortune.Had Ruddy been between the sticks for that period we would probably have had another four or five points an we might have finished above Swansea and WBA. As for our pals down the road - "Beware the Ides of March,The Pieman is coming"
Interesting that the Mirror quote a fee of £2m, whereas the Daily Fail say £4m - rising if Wigan gain promotion next season? Can we take the 'Fail' option, please
totally agreed with this CT - the hughton bashing. give the bloke a chance for this season! the guy has done really well in the transfer market so far, he'll get it right for the start of the season, i have every confidence in him.
Which, wages aside, is still 500% of what the club paid for him. So all those fans who waived the £70 season ticket rebate can soon claim circa £350 from the club coffers!!
it's going to be interesting to see how he gets on in europe though! not to mention the charity shield at wembley too!!
