It's the competitive nature that is the difference. I'm not saying that you can't be a fan of other players but if you are not a massive fan of a particular opponent I would expect practically all British people would want him to win. I think it would be similar with the Eurovision song contest. Most people wouldn't be a fan of anybody but they would still want the UK entrant to win.

Well I'm clearly not most people cos I don't automatically want my compatriot to win and if Bonnie Tyler had won Eurovision I would've been appalled.

In all fairness I wanted him to lose. If an Englishman was playing in Scotland would the locals claim him as one their own and scream his name? Would they ****ers like. Tennis is ****e anyway and I have no idea why I felt the need to get involved in this thread. That is all.
