This thread needs closing. We might as well be talking about making Gary Glitter the honorary club president.

    Seig Heil!

( I read the post - and it made the most of a sensationalist choice of words to the point it was mis-representative - furthermore how DARE you assume I and y family have no experience of violent crime - we have, though I'm not letting any ****ing low-life criminal change my or my country's hard won principles thank you very much. Scumbag.)

Bit of a bizarre turn of debate, now he is a babysitter; a goal-scoring footballer would do me (within the terms discussed)!

There are many ex-offenders (bear in mind the prefix ex) who work tirelessly to assist others to become ex-offenders. Some write excellent (opinion) screen-plays about their experiences and they receive much high-brow appreciation; even though they have been multiple offenders as adults. They do say that everything comes to he that waits; maybe it will be a Bad Company album (excellent) and maybe it might be someone in your circle meeting and coming under the spell of bad company; either can be just a short trip (sic) away.

This guy was a boy in very troubled circumstances; how good you all are, so well put together and feeling so able to condemn and throw away his life (but for the tolerance of others). He was a child, a boy, a juvenile - your adult judgment and lack of tolerance to his situation shames you.

I'd actually pay for Duffen's babysitter if it was Mboyo.

Go for it! Like I said earlier, that is why I am grateful for our impartial justice system. You feel able to judge, good for you. :emoticon-0112-wonde

Excellent, I see no problem with that; crack on. :emoticon-0148-yes:

    It's amazing how things change.

Not long ago we were struggling for our very existence, now it seems we employ experts on the rehabilitation of foreign sex offenders.

There is a difference between forgiveness and acceptance of the principle of redemption, and that living in a society without it (at least conditionally) would be as worse a fate as suffering the initial wrongdoing. Saying that I don't want this player simply because I don't want my club associated with his crime. If I were to forgive him absolutely I shouldn't really have an issue with that.

My reason for wanting the thread closed is that frankly it sickens me to read people offering sympathy to a child rapist.
I doubt there's a 16 year old on this planet who doesn't know that gang raping a little girl is as vile a crime as you can get.
16 year olds have a choice in their actions like anyone else and the choice this piece of **** made is one he deserves to be judged by.

He has been judged by it.

He continues to be judged by it - any previous like that, particularly in a public facing industry is going to hold you back both career-wise and socially.

There's a difference between offering sympathy (at least on my part - I have no sympathy at all for him and do not have enough knowledge of the circumstances to develop any) and defending the hard won principles of the society I am proud to be a part of. I would however have sympathy for his mother after you jack-booted lot had snapped his neck in an act of greater barbarity than the one he was convicted for.

I base my judgement of the likes of him on my own moral code.
Just because someone serves time for a crime doesn't mean we're obliged to forgive them for it. He did what he did and he will have to live with the consequences.

I don't really - I just know that 2 wrongs don't make a right and that state sponsored murder is just that - you just create more victims of his crime. And yes, I suggest you read Pierrepoint's memoirs on the experience and value of execution. It is vile, as is any rape, murder or violent crime. Why do you have to choose who to have sympathy for? I would suggest that it is a horrendous ordeal for all those affected and wouldn't want anyone to have to live through it - victim, victim's family or a parent having to come to terms with their child committing such an atrocity.

I repeat I have no sympathy for the rapist at all and I would like you to show me where I stated I had. I do and will however believe to the death that a society with no opportunity of reform or principle of redemption (which has to be conditional) is a worse fate for everyone than the system we currently have after 500 years or so of cultural development.

I don't like the idea of living with a 16th century penal code, do you?

I agree, and I don't believe I have said I do forgive that sort of crime - If you want to live in a society that feels the same way as you though then I'm sure you'll find somewhere in the middle-east with the same "moral code".

For me, however, that would be worse that living in a society where attempts are made to rehabilitate all but the very, very worst kind of psychopath. Furthermore, how can somebody "live with the consequences" if he's dead at the end of a rope - It's just his family who have been convicted of no crime who then live with the consequences.
