Trouble is, I can't see NC getting bent over by an agent. Saying that, I don't think it's any more unlikely than previously - would guess we're still negotiating.

He's daft if he's putting it off due to agent fee's, the only teams that pay big money to agents are the top 6. None of them will take a punt on a £12,000,000 rated SPL player. I'd say he's shot himself I'm the foot.

I don't know, looking at this some clubs must be paying some fairly hefty amounts to get their totals that high. We give them a free scarf and a pub lunch, bearing in mind we spent one of the biggest amounts last year we must pay tiny amounts to agents compared to other clubs.

All part of negotiations. Sounds like he is holding out for a better offer whether for him or his agent. With the amount of teams interested in him, I'd do the same thing. Why sign for the first team that offers you a contract?

It does seem like Cortese's strategy is to obtain players by offering high transfer fees and hoping that deters other teams from coming in. If no other teams will match the offer, then you have leverage in wage negotiations. I don't have a problem with that. Maybe Cardiff won't stump up the 12 million.

Yeah, Cortese has this strange idea that answering a phone, having your assistant book a flight and setting aside an afternoon isn't worth seven figures.

It probably goes on the back-burner for now. His agent will look elsewhere, and if Cardiff or someone else wants to build the agent a new house, that's Wanyama's landing spot. If no such payday is forthcoming, we might suddenly see the agent settle for a down payment on said house instead.

Although I'd be disappointed if we don't sign Victor, I have to admire Cortese's stance IF it is down to agents fees. Someone stated previously that's all that's wrong with the game; IMO they're not far off and if we are the first club to truly take a stand then good for the club.

Think everyone is jumping to conclusions about agents fees being the stumbling block. Wanyama is saying the terms have to be acceptable to him and his agent and he trusts his agent to advise him. Probably still in negotiations, though doubt Nicola will move much unless he is nowhere near his final offer anyway. We all know that our wages are not high for the PL though okay for Europe.

No player is essential and no player can be guaranteed to be a success at any particular club. If not Wanyama, we may get another player who turns out better for us anyway. We must all learn not to love too soon.

BBC is reporting his agents are urging him to go to Turkey where tax rates are much lower!

As I say, I do suspect negotiations are continuing, but it's beginning to smack of the Buttner deal where we lost out because we wouldn't give cut to Buttner's dad. You have to admire the solidity of the principle, but it ain't half frustrating to miss out on players!

I don't want players who are going to **** the club around and disrespect it by going to the media. I'm no fan of principles as they, like any ideal, are an escape from reality but the principles we have stood by have seen the club grow in exactly the right direction.

I agree and I do admire that stance, frustrating as it is.

There are a few odd things in his statement. Apart from the stuff about his agent, which does indeed suggest we aren't offering him enough, he refers to it as "a very important move for me if it happens" which clearly implies he still thinks it could go ahead, and the stuff about him considering what is right for Celtic implies we are in the driving seat because no-one else has offered them as much as we have.

It's a little concerning that he would discuss things so openly with the media, but for my money it's just a negotiating tactic. From what he says none of the problems are insurmountable, and assuming Celtic don't accept a lower offer from Cardiff or anyone else, it's still difficult to see any other outcome than him signing for us.

Just thinking about this (and this is based on nothing but a hunch), knowing the way Nicola likes to operate, could it not be a good sign that the Banega deal has gone all quiet?

Trouble is no matter how good our transfer fee is, even if no other club can match it, if wanyama doesn't want it the transfer won't happen and Celtic won't see penny one. If you don't offer enough of a salary it kind of makes a mockery of the transfer offer.

I do agree v strongly about the agents fee issue- parasitic c***s.

This is true and if someone tells the agent on the quiet they will meet wage demands and agents fees, then the agent and player could still get a slightly lower fee agreed between Celtic and another club.

I think we should raise our wage offer slightly but still refuse to pay those greedy, snivveling bastard agents. Yeah obviously turkey is a fat better place than the PL to forge your career. After all our league is being dessimated by players leaving in droves to go there.

It definitely does seem like a statement his agent told him to read, but if it's genuine, then the rubbish about him and his agent being like family doesn't bode well for us if we tell his agent to **** off.
