The only thing I wonder about here is the price. Why would we set a new club transfer record when the Pozzos and Duxbury have all said that the financial security of the club is paramount.

But would it not be safer to sign him to udinese and then loan him on? Just in case he isnt another Vydra. £4,000,000 for an unproven player seems a lot for a club which are meant to be being frugal. But thats just my view. Im not as clued uo as the Pozzos.

I suppose that those who follow the Austrian Bundesliga and Europa League may well argue that he is not unproven - but I doubt he is worth £4M - especially as he is currently recovering from a ruptured achilles tendon and is out until the end of this year.

The good people of Plzen didn't protect the name very well and so Pils is used in Germany to describe any light coloured Lager beer originating from either the Czech Republic or Germany. The Germans use the expression Lagerbier to describe any beer brewed in this way but coming from abroad eg. Fosters or Carlsberg. Cologne protected it's name better and so Kölschbier can only be brewed in Cologne. Germans are very patriotic about their regional beers and to drink anything other than Kölsch whilst in Cologne is considered rather odd. As for Lager (or Pils) being as German as the Kaiser, up until 1842 (In Plzen) all beer was dark everywhere in Europe - and Germany's oldest breweries date back to about 1100. So, brewing of dark beers or 'Landbiers' (Like Ale) has the much older tradition in Germany despite the present tastes of young Germans.

Just to elaborate on this. There were dark lagers, which were brewed before the Pilsener, which was the first pale lager. The first dark lager was produced by German brewers in the 16th Century using lager Yeasts (which ferment between 39 degrees and 48 degrees ). Ale yeasts ferment between 59 degrees and 77 degrees. Thus ale could not be brewed all year round in Germany at that time. The word Lager could come from the German word to store ie. at lower temperatures - just a guess.

You are right Cologne. There are essentially 2 types of beer - Lagers and Ales and the differences are the yeasts used. Yeasts used for producing "Lager" as we would call it work at lower temperatures than those to produce Ales/ Obviously before the invention of mass refrigeration it mean that the geography determine the beer produced. However nowadays any beers can be produced anywhere.

I visited Pilsen in the early 80's whilst the Iron Curtain was still up. We drove down from The Hook v Holland and crossed the Czech border down near Schweinfurt and it took hours as we had a Carnet to get through - but it was just like the border crossings in the films. Barbed wire fences, goon towers and the pine forest cleared back from the fences - weird experience. When we got to our hotel, they tried to tell us they had no beer! After a few minutes arguing a couple of DM's exchanged, we got our beer and a pork dinner - we were in Czech, Hungry and Poland for 2 weeks and had pork every night!

"Amazing new for watford fans, can confirm we have signed Acuna from real madrid and Angella from Udinese both on 5 year deals, abdi and ekstrand also signed perm deals. Others being done monday and tuesday this is fact not rumour! Won't be posting on wfc sites as don't want to pee off contact!"

Sorry if I've peed off anyone's contact. :)

Seen that - hope its true as we need to get some players in fairly soon just so they can be ready for the start of Pre-season.

I presume Udinese would buy the chap from Real Madrid and then we would get him on loan rather than a 5 year deal though?

With the loan rules now tightened their won't be an many loans as last season, so
these deal could well be perms.
Not a problem for the Pozzo's as they own all 3 clubs & therefore players anyway.
Looking forward to some firm news asap.

    From Twitter:
    ITK_Watford ‏@ITK_Watford

Almen Abdi, Joel Ekstrand, Cristian Battocchio and Ikechi Anya have all agreed to sign permanent deals with Watford.

Angella will not join Watford if Medhi Benatia is sold this summer.

Marco Faraoni has agreed to move to Watford FC. Will be announced within a couple of weeks.

Merkel is highly unlikely to join Watford this summer, he wants to stay in Italy and Guidolin wants him as back up

Mathias Ranegie is almost certain to join Watford FC on a permanent deal once the transfer window opens, will join before WFC's Italy tour.
