Agreed, only if those matches are at the right level.

Take a player from your local Saturday league A team and play then for 6 months in a League D team. Their standards will drop.

Does Messi play centre mid? But point taken, think Xavi or Iniesta may have been a better example. And I also think the point you make about the English disease is a very good one. All about being big strong and quick, technique comes second.

I completely agree with you FLT ... he should be playing for us, but with another CM coming in, already with Cork/Schneiderlin/Davis you'd have to assume there would be limited opportunities for him.

JWP would be at a good level in the Champ to improve his ability.

I don't think a loan to Bournemouth would necessarily be a bad thing. Ferguson had no problem loaning out someone like Beckham to Preston. It's a bit disrespectful to Bournemouth to automatically assume their training would ruin him.

I'd personally rather have JWP, maybe not as ready but with vast potential, as back up then Steve 'The Crab' Davis.

I hope so. I'd just worry that he'd then slip away when his ability and potential is there, right in font of our noses.

Yes he could sit on the bench but realistically he's not going to displace cork/schneid ATM. People talk about him playing CAM (which I don't see) but he won't displace gaston or Davis any time soon. It makes sense for him to go somewhere for half a season. And bournemouth is nice- i live there.

Exactly. Man Utd, after developing some of the best players to have played in England, often loaned out their youngsters to "less fashionable" teams, did them no harm.

I think classic case of players developing in the "tougher" more physical leagues is our very own Morgan, who admits it did him the world of good playing in those leagues as it toughened him up. If I were JWP I would look to Morgan as a shining example of this. I really hope he stays long term and think he will but trust NC and MOPO in their judgement as to how best develop the player.

What's your beef with Davis? For the most part he put in some solid performances.

Probably the same beef he had with Martin

Agree - S.Davis will never let the team down. A solid player.

I think that this is more about the desires of the player than a change in philosophy. Remember, Ward-Prowse came out with a rather audacious shot across the bow for an 18 year old, stating that he's not happy being a substitute, and feels that he can only learn by playing week-in, week-out. He wants rather badly to start games and prove himself...a loan might be the best way to keep him content and give him the chance to show his quality.

No beef, just don't think he fits into our system. Very good midfielder in a 442 formation, but in our 4-2-3-1 I feel he is not strong enough defesnively to play as one of the 2 'pivot-men' and lacks flair and creativity to play the CAM role.

I think it's probably different. Aaron Martin was ****, Steve Davis is just not much more than solid.

You obviously dont appreciate the work Davis does, he uses the ball fantastically well, always maintains possession and has scored.

Absolutely. I do rate Davis as a lower level Premiership midfielder, but as they are both likely to be back up, would rather have JWP as that, then Davis, who's ceiling is far lower than Prowseys!

Incredibly naïve comment IMO. Davis' contribution has been excellent. Just because he doesn't drop his shoulder, beat three players and scream one in the top corner, doesn't mean he doesn't fit our style. He has been excellent for us. The only comment I would accept in negative tones about him would be that he doesn't continue the pace of an attack when we drive forward, but I can live with that as that is not his thing. His ability to keep the ball moving and in possession with a first touch short pass or one-two is superb.

I think he is often under-valued.

I will add that he may not get much time this season depending on signings, but you not what you can get from him and you'll get it.

He keeps the ball because he slows it down and plays sideways passes.

Not a bad comment. I think your real issue is that you shoot from the hip (maybe that's why you are called sharpshooter) and sometimes posts come across as too aggressive and derogatory to people. Your "crab" comment about Davis was certainly un-necessarily derogative. Now you have enhanced and explained your view, it is perfectly reasonable.
