Ward to the cherries is a good move, they are a small club but on the up and have a young manager in Howe, I can see them staying up in the championship next season Was a good servant for us - a massive unit, just not too mobile
This would be a good move, IMO. With Pilks and Surman there already, Redmond would bring something different again, and as he's only 19, he wouldn't count in the 25 man squad. Let's hope CH can attract him here from his old club.
He'd provide the pace we so obviously lack. Our attack was screaming out for some pace last season. A quick winger and/or striker would do wonders for our attack, another option to use. Only Bennett in our current squad has any real pace, and with Snoddy holding down that right side he was ineffectively used on the left. I still think he has a big role to play in the coming seasons, though.
Agree about the pace, Colk, and Redmond also seems to have an instinct that makes him seem older and more experienced than his 19 years.
Yeah, Elliott Bennet, he's my favourite. Related to the Invisible Man, Marcus Evans, a white rabbit, a pane of glass and Debbie Magee. Yep, that boy really knows how to stamp his authority on a game.
Bennett is a hard worker. He isn't afraid to run at players and has more about him than just pace. He plays that role off the stikers surprisingly well, from the few times I've seen him there. And I've never seen a winger who could get back defensively and tackle so well! Sure, he hasn't had a huge impact at Norwich, other than that cracking strike against Spurs, but I still think he's a good player. Just needs a decent run in a team, which he is obviously unlikely to get with Snoddy in the way. I hope I haven't enraged you too much, Carrahbuh. I'm new here, still learning the ins and outs.
I like him but agree he needs to up his game a bit. Would you see a future for him as a RB? He is good defensively, but I agree can lack in attack at times.
Just tell him you love long ball football and everything will be rosy! On the topic of Bennett, I think he's useful as a squad option, and agree that a run in the team would help him. Having said that, when he's got Snoddy ahead of him, he's not going to get that run unless we have an injury, so we're likely to get the same kind of performances whenever he's called upon. I'd like to see us experiment with him at RB in an early round of a cup too. Snodgrass cutting in and having Bennett on the overlap could be promising. I was trying to work out a formation where we could actually achieve that before, and was struggling, I ended up with something like: ---------Ruddy------------ ------Martin---Bassong--Garrido Bennett-----Johnson---------- Snodgrass--Howson--Surman---Pilks ------------RvW------------------ Figuring Surman could create from a deeper position, and help cover the left side (along with Johnson) with Pilks acting more as a second striker at times. But it definitely needs some more work! I could actually see Toivonen being a better fit for that mess of a formation than Surman really. For now though I'm happy to keep Bennett. He's cover for Snodgrass, cheap enough, and doesn't seem the type to disrupt the dressing room. When looking to improve the squad, the RW position is pretty far down the list for me, I think the only positions I'd be even less worried about are RB and GK.
Looks a bit like the Barcelona formation where Alves plays as a winger on the right hand side, but no left winger...
I can see what you mean. I don't see why formations 'have' to be symmetrical really, if we've got someone who'd make a decent RWB, and a player who can cover RB and CB equally well, what does it matter if we haven't got the same the other side? It's not going to work every game, but it might work against pacy left wingers, something Martin normally struggles with. Particularly if the opposition LB is a little weak too, as having Snodgrass and Bennett to double up on them could cause all kinds of issues.
I generally think it's more beneficial to have slightly unsymetrical formations as it allows your players to move into more space and the opposition players have a much harder time defending when they aren't certain which player is going where. Though I guess it's harder to organise and when you're on the pitch in the heat of the game, formations can go right out the window.

this is so true! i recall when holt asked for a transfer there were a host of people saying 'get rid, he's ****'! for the record, i had two repsonses from blackburn fans on twitter this morning - one thinks olsson is outstanding, the other thinks he's 'meh'.

I also think that Bennett has a role to play. Snods will always be first choice, but Bennett offers another option as Surman does on the left, and his tracking back is excellent. With a larger squad of PL players I suspect there will be more rotation, which could be important for the second half of the season.
