So basically, now that we've started losing more since we got to the Prem, being a Saints fan has stopped being fun?

There is a correlation between fun and success. Glory hunting would not exist otherwise.

I dare say not many were having giggles when we were getting relegated on merit to league one, even before the admin.

I was very cheerful when we sold David McGoldrick However.

Problem is, if you're really good the destination is back here anyway, if your really good and just miss promotion you end up in the **** financially, and if you watch what you're spending to avoid the financial crap you don't tend to win many games. That's my general take on the failings of the league football system.

Seems correct to me. I guess we'll just have to wait for the cycle to start again ;)

I like the Prem not just for the level of competition, but the fact that the wins are more satisfying if more sporadic. Beating people left and right was fun, but knocking over a team of top-level internationals is that much sweeter.

So how much better is this guy than Gaston?

Whereas Gaston plays in the hole, Banega can play in a deeper-lying role and burst forward into attack. He's more of a classic attack-minded central mid who can dictate in all facets of the game, rather than a trequartista half-midfielder-half-deep-striker type.

That'd be nice. Morgan made a good effort of joining the attack last season but it would be nice to see someone do so naturally. Has he got a shot on him?

Where does Banega even play?

He is the complete midfield player, He can play both attacking and defensive roles. He has incredible vision, can dribble with the best of them but is also strong in the tackle. He has the ability to dictate a game and for me is one of the worlds best playmakers. He has a crazy side but if we pull this off it would dwarf the Ramirez signing and for me would rank alongside Keegan in terms of craziness.

I'll never understand people who prefer the lower leagues. Who is more entertaining, Gareth Bale or Stuart Beavon, ooh err, I wonder.

At the moment, quite a bit. Gaston has a higher ceiling. Different players anyway, but yeah.

Sounds too good to be true for us. Is this a tribalfootball rumour? I haven't gone back through the thread to check yet.
We won't be signing Ever Banega.

cool

:sadface

Not necessarily, it's never dull or boring being a Saints fan ;)

Just quite simply, the journey has been better than the destination (at least so far)

Playing on the biggest stage in the world isn't good enough compared to a cold Tuesday night at Boundary Park? Lower leagues have their charm, but to say that they are better than the Premier League just isn't right.

So we play him against the better, more attacking sides and gaston for the lower teams? Just trying to think of why we need him if gaston is staying. Davis replacement?

The lower leagues were good man! Away days more frequently, cheaper tickets, more wins....

But yeah, obviously I prefer the Premier League - the wins are more satisfying if less frequent, and the media coverage is better, along with the quality of play :)

Almost certainly not, unfortunately. The downside of that low price tag (if Valencia are willing to give him up so cheaply) is that every team in Europe is going to find 9m Euro somewhere in the cushions. If he signs here, it's time to start asking pointed questions about whether the DVD is actually an acronym belonging to Cortese's mercenary army.

he could quite easily play in the midfield 2 behind gaston

There's a point in the lower leagues where the entertainment wears off. but I think it's all relative. you get to see good goals at every level. moreso because we provided the passing football on the way up, but there's screamers at every level.

at league two there's probably enough hopelessly **** teams that if your own team isn't any good, there's nothing to be entertained by.

Anyway, it doesn't matter, he won't be coming here. (Deliberately trying to temp fate.)

So he can play as a holding midfielder? Replacing cork? But more offensive?

The lower leagues were great fun but I'm glad it was only a short stint. It was nice to be able to buy tickets and go to more games, traveling to crappy grounds. And of course singing the "I've got a shed" song. Good times. Tranmere away was a low point.
