To be honest even if we don't sign him, the fact we have gone from "I wonder if we'll get any points from Yeovil away" to "Here's a video of our potential new signing tearing Barcelona apart" within the space of a few short years is frankly ridiculous. I can't get my poor head around it.

I miss them days :(

But I do agree, our rise has been quite simply phenomenal .... taking a while to catch up

Really? I did enjoy League 1 and our most recent Championship stint, but I wouldn't trade it for this.

I'm not sure what I'd prefer

Winning on a regular basis and being a "big boy of the league", and enjoying yourselves every week, albleit against smaller oppostions

or

Winning more sporadicically, being a smaller team, although playing against the best players in the world.

As many people know, I'm a big big fan of the lower leagues .... I'm enjoying the PL, but I think I enjoyed our journey more than the destination right now.

I'm probably in a minority of one again in having enjoyed the Pardew season the most.

It was unsustainable though. Nobody would fund the maintenance of an expensive squad at that level indefinitely. And Pardew is apparently unable to hold it together for more than a season anywhere.

I do like a free kick and Rickie has so rarely put one away since that first season.

League 1 was great, think deep down we knew we would be leaving quickly. Our dominance of the NPC impressed me most.

So how much better is this guy than Gaston?

So basically, now that we've started losing more since we got to the Prem, being a Saints fan isn't as fun?

Problem is, if you're really good the destination is back here anyway, if your really good and just miss promotion you end up in the **** financially, and if you watch what you're spending to avoid the financial crap you don't tend to win many games. That's my general take on the failings of the league football system.
