wtf are you on about? every decade a new player comes along. Messi has broken a record but that doesn't mean he's the greatest. Messi has scored 46 in 32 games in la liga but had 163 shots. so he has a 1 in 4 shots/goal ratio. Which proves my point that if he didn't play for a team with world class passers to deliver the ball on a plate to him and create a ton of chances he wouldn't be as prolific. He doesn't reproduce that with Argentina because no iniesta or xavi which proves to me he isn't that great and is carried greatly by Barca team. He breaks Muller's record and becomes the greatest footballer? why? Muller wasn't considered the greatest ... because it's not all about goals. Michael Jordan's records have been broken yet he is still considered the greatest You only think Messi is greatest because you're a fanboy who can't even remember seeing Zidane or Pele play. I forgive you though
platini won it 3 times in a row... was he considered the greatest? you're determining who is the greatest on broken records which don't apply.
I think he is the greatest but such things should always be said with an * unless you have been around for long enough to see the majority of the greats play. Messi to me is not in the Michael Jordan category (to use Circa's example) of greatest in that when you watched him play ball you knew he was the greatest. There was very little doubt in your mind when he was at his prime what you were watching. I dont know how I feel about the Barca issue making Messi appear better than he is. All the greats played on great teams. Jordan had Pippen, Rodman, Longley, and Kerr. Gretsky had Kurri, Coffey and Anderson. All the greats like Ruth, Mantle, and Dimaggio played on the best teams with the best players. Just as Messi plays with some of the best players in the game. I would be careful with an argument that forces a separation between the "best player" and the best supporting cast wearing the same jersey. Jordan wouldnt have been the Jordan we knew if he played for the Bullets just as Messi or Ronaldo wouldnt be the players we know if they played for Everton. But that does not mean that all are not eligible for that temporary distinction.
Zidane wouldn't have been that good if he didn't play for one of the best teams in the world which had some of the best players either.

I agree with Circa that stats don't decide who is the best player. But I still think Messi is one of the best, if not the best player ever.
That's just abnormal. What would be weird is if he actually turns out to be an Alien as he claimed. Messi isn't human back on topic either. How someone can be so good at football is just ridiculous.
