Sponsors in general annoy me, but I'm okay with it when it's a charity or a small local business. Pay-day loans are massive cons and I'd be pretty pissed off if we were sponsored by one of those.

Newcastle are still sponsored by Wonga, of course, and Hull have Cash Converters which is along similar lines. There are the normal sprinkling of bookies/gambling websites, plus banks. You're not even allowed to advertise tobacco any more, so that one's out. Cigarette plain packaging doesn't seem to be as popular with the govt despite the demonstrable benefits that Australia has had since introducing it, but hey that's a different issue.

Not a bad idea PompeyLapras, How about "Carnival" The company own the following

Carnival Corporation & plc is a global cruise company and one of the largest vacation companies in the world. Our portfolio of leading cruise brands includes Carnival Cruise Lines, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises and Seabourn in North America; P&O Cruises (UK), and Cunard in the United Kingdom; AIDA Cruises in Germany; Costa Cruises in Southern Europe; Iberocruceros in Spain; and P&O Cruises (Australia) in Australia.

Good idea OTV - my son is an engineer cadet with Carnival - he`s on the Queen Mary ATM. He`s like a dog with 2 .....err, tails.

While shirt sponsorship is a great revenue stream for clubs, I think you do need to be sensible in what you choose to display across your shirts - Local companies or charities must be the best options. What does it say about a team with Wonga or the like splashed across their shirts?

]Back in year 7[/B], I used to spend ages fantasising about going on the ship the Carnival Destiny and spent ages downloading pictures of it from the Carnival website into a word document. Good times.

She's now called Carnival Sunshine, that's a bit of a lame name.

OK, that was last year .....

I have to ask, was 'the cruises being the most awesome thing' simply a wind up? If so, shame no-one bit. If not, just sad.

A Pay Day Loan logo for shirt ? Hahahaha . LOL .
I suppose all the players will have to get a pay day loan , cos they've over indulged in their lifestyle .

It was exaggerated hyperbole, which people could choose to take as a wind up or not. But it must be interesting living in Southampton, driving past the port and seeing all the different ships that happened to be docked at any given time from all over the world. And cruises are pretty awesome.

Admirable decision by Bolton Wanderers.

I'd be quite happy to accept a brewer or bookmaker as sponsor, as on balance both provide more pleasure than they do pain. In fact, I'd be happy to have a tobacco company as sponsor. Is the BAT factory still in Shirley? How about the Dunhill St Mary's Stadium, with Lucky Strike as shirt sponsors?

I've not read any articles on this, but I'm Sking have they really been admirable or just not got a big enough deal done so decided to claim moral high ground? Just asking.

Steady. Using phrases like this scares the children. So, you are saying that the interesting thing about Southampton is that ships stop there. Isn't that like saying my streets got a bus stop? Sorry, I hate cruises so maybe that's why I can't get this point, which I am sure is sincerely meant.

Maybe this is worthy of its own thread. Southampton is interesting because ....
