He still hasn't signed a contract though has he, as it stands £10m would be very generous.

If shaw wants to leave sell him. We will get in better and I can see Targett being as good if he lives up to his reputation.

Shaw will want to play first team football and I can only see him staying at Southampton until he can force his way into the chelsea first team.

I want us to see us keep our youngsters at all costs as long as they want to stay. If they want to leave then so be it.

Gotta love a good ITK agent account.

One tweeted on April 13th that Boruc would sign for Palermo, I called him out on it a second ago and 'his sources let him down'.

    Ha.

Can't really blame Shaw if he does want to go and if we can get £15 million + then I wouldn't be massively fussed. Has a lot of talent but is only 17 you never know what the next few years may bring. From his point of view if he stays and has a crap season next year or his development stalls due to injury or maybe he has reached his peak at a young age and won't improve much more, then the chances of him getting a move to a top 4 club are very slim.

Similar to the Chamberlain situation, when a top four team comes knocking you have to think long and hard about it as the chance may never come up again.

Don't get me started on the contracts and u18 player rights and all those shenanigans...

Regardless, surely if they were going to nick him pre-contract on the cheap they would have already?

Could this be some of his agent stirring up the interest. Hopefully Shaw will sign a contract with us when he turns 18 but his agent may use these stories as leverage to get Shaw a better deal. That said I can't see Nicola being taken in by it.

I was under the impression he until a friend I was discussing this with the other day was adamant he wasn't on a full pro-contract and thus could be nicked for a pittance if he wanted to go before we locked him up this summer, and I wasn't bothered enough to check. Serves me right for believing a word he says as he's invariably wrong about everything.

Exactly, people are forgetting that he is already under contract! But can't be signed to a longer-term deal until he is 18.

He cannot be poached, if we don't want to sell him, he will stay.

Wouldn't be too surprised to see Shaw sign a deal in the summer then leave. Means Saints can get a bigger transfer fee as he is under contract and he is in some way paying us back and saying thanks for bringing him through

I think we need to make a big announcement to this forum that Shaw is under contract

With that kind of attitude we would never get maximum value from our academy, we need to take the risk and in a lot of cases end up not only with a talented player for a longer period, we can also most likely sell them for much more in the future, e.g. Walcott and Bale. There is a risk but it has so be taken or we'll just carry on losing all our talented youngsters.

Why is it when a rumour about a player leaving a lot of people actually think he is leaving? Are some people still stuck in the time before we got brought out by Liebherr?

Well no because the theory is that say we sell Shaw for £15 mil. We spend it on 2/3 players who improve the first team squad overall. Finish higher up the table, do better in cup competitions (maybe even win something), then our youngsters will want to stay.

Its going to take a few years at least before every young player coming through is going to want to stay with us. Not all of them will be like Lallana, the simple truth is the majority are likely to be more like Chamberlain and will take the big move if offered. And with the amount of player power about nowadays there isn't really much you can do. We are fortunate that we have Cortese who can get us good deals for our outgoing players so we can re invest the money back into the playing side.

Or keep Shaw and strength the team any ways. It's not like we haven't got money is it?

That is obviously the ideal scenario.

My example was if Shaw wants to leave
