Not to want Odemwingie at my club?? After his appalling behaviour at WBA, surely we can do better than this Bullardesque mercenary? I want players at the Club who are hungry to make a name for themselves by running thru brick walls for HCFC not players looking for one last big pay day. We've done that already!!
Telegraph suggesting we want him for £3m but West Brom want closer to £4.8m We're obviously getting linked to a lot of players, would you be happy with him signing? He's a quality player, but clearly he's controversial after what happened in January.
At 31 he's also massively overpriced and not what we need. We need a lone striker who can hold the ball up. IMHO Odemwingie is position ally the same as Aluko. ......and that's without considering his character or motivation.
We managed to weed out all the bad apples from our last time in the Prem, the last thing we want is to get another straight away. Team spirit will be key to any chance we have this season, look at DQPR as an example of what not to do.
I dunno, it's a tough one. It's depend on wages i think, at £3m he'd be a bit of a bargain considering his quality. He is similar to Aluko but then what if he gets another injury? You can't have too many good players, it's also about who else is available. We need to stay up so if he's the best player we can afford and Bruce believes in himself to control his behaviour should anything happen then I struggle to think why we should pass up the opportunity of signing a match winner like him. Divisive player yes, maybe that alone is reason enough to avoid him?
He has however got the EPL player of the month award 3 times in the last couple of seasons. He scored at a rate of 1 in 3 (ish) for WBA. Realistically are we likely to find anyone better in our price range? His problems have been "foolish" actions rather than the sort of thing associated with Marlon King/Nile Ranger etc. His issue seems to be with WBA rather than everyone.
Made a right **** of himself. Saw the money and discarded all dignity in pursuit of it. Over 30. I don't want this **** here.
Not that I'm aware of. He seemed quite settled at West Brom, then suddenly decided he wanted to be anywhere but there. I don't know why. Strange that he was prepared to go to QPR, who even at that time looked doomed, and were unlikely to be offering more money. His only other "problem" that I'm aware of came at Moscow, where he was very much the victim (of racist abuse) rather than the perp. To compare him to Bullard (as some have done) is unfair. Odemwingie fell out with WBA and wanted selling (they would profit), Bullard was like dogshit. Stuck around doing nothing and we couldn't shift him.
Doesn't he claim its not about money and says he moved to west brom for less money than his previous club ?
From Moscow, where the levels of abuse for anyone "black" are astonishing. And remember this was their own player they were abusing. So, yes, money does not seem to be his main motive. Which makes the "mercenary" accusations seem slightly ridiculous. Similarly I doubt that QPR were likely to offer long term financial benefits as his income would have dropped when they tumbled into the Championship. More to his spat than meets the eye. Even West Brom have only accused him of stupidity and naivety rather than any impropriety. Someone must know.
He's obviously a bit of a cock, but he doesn't knock birds about, or fight in clubs and he can score goals, so I'm not all that bothered, he's hardly another Marlon King.
DJ Campbell was arrested in connection with a nightclub stabbing(though he was never charged), so he's a bit more of a cock. My moral compass cans also be slightly affected by goal scoring ratio's.
He's a bit of a twat, but surely worth it if you put a relegation clause in his contract? His goal-to-game record is very good for the Prem.
Mine too. Background reading suggests this guy is genuinely more concerned about his wife and kid, no Marlonesque rumours that I can find. Doesn't seem that motivated by money either. I suspect just not that bright and gets angry when frustrated. His WBA problem seems to be a genuine "personality clash" which lead him to the somewhat silly action he took. Hardly violent or abusive. Just handled it badly. Thick rather than Prick in my book.
A 1 in 3 goal ratio in the Prem? I'd be more than happy with him signing. He's been a bit of a **** - not an utter ****. Still think we need 3 strikers Odemwingie/Austin or Rhodes/Cameron Jerome or Kenwyne Jones type
I'd like to think that after last time and the Allam's experience paying through the nose on ridiculous prem wages that all of our signings will have some sort of clause to drop wages should we get relegated!
