What's his next move then? He doesn't seem interested in management, but he has shown previous interest in youth development.

Beckham will probably show his face now and then at his academies, and do some other occasional media chat shows and stuff.

Oh, and his modelling.

Beckham isn't even a footballer anymore, hasn't been for years ... he's a brand nowadays

Then it's all the more impressive that he's kept winning trophies. Ligue 1 this year, and was it two MLS cups? Pretty good for someone who's not even a footballer.

Retirements this season: Alex Ferguson, David Beckham, Paul Scholes (again), Michael Owen, Jamie Carragher, Phil Neville, Jupp Heynckes, Mark van Bommel, Guus Hiddink, Alexander Frei, Michael Ballack, Tim Borowski, Torsten Frings, Roberto Carlos.

End of an era.

Great list Joe, I've pinched that.

This is when I realise I'm getting old...

If you notice, he only went to places where he could build up his profile.

Of course it's impressive he's won trophies, but as I say, he's a brand first, and a footballer second.

Still one of the most passionate players ever to play for England.

No. He's a footballer who grew into a brand. But he is primarily known for being a footballer.

He has a smart management team. Manchester, Madrid, Los Angeles, Milan, Paris. Nice.

Or he chose places which are really nice places to live with his family.
