Love Sagna he's always been one of the best Right Backs in Europe but the truth is he had lost a yard of pace since his injuries.( and isn't getting any younger) Might be the right time to sell.
I still think he can convert to center back like Thuram did in his later years. Would be a shame to lose a player who can actually defend.
Hearing massive news that PHW could step down at the end of the season (Ladyarse on twitter) Pretty reliable.
i don't think he can. he can tackle, but he'd have to learn how to position himself defensively again. I've played both CB and RB, and I can tell you it is quite difficult to adjust. Even more so as he's playing at the top level of the sport. He could become a more defensive RB, but that wouldn't suit our style of play so I see him leaving.
I suppose I'm mainly going on his performance against Sunderland (or Stoke?) when we were down to 10 men and he had to play center back. That was a 10/10 job he did there. I've noticed he gets a lot of defensive headers, last ditch tackles, and covers our CBs well too. He seems to be exceptional at the defensive side of the game, and from what little I've seen of him at CB, he's done great there. I think he has one season left, so it might be worth testing him at CB more often during next season. That may actually be the plan now that Squiddy and Djourou are effectively gone.
I would agree with this. Very, very tough at the top level to change positions late in a career. Not impossible, as people point out, there have been cases, but very very difficult.
I would welcome that news with open arms PHW is well past his sell by date and in my opinion part of the reason that the board have been so conservative over the last few years. There have been a few issues going on that PHW and co have been very quick to put their own interests first over and above the team and results on the pitch. Time for some fresh blood at the top.
