This is obviously inspired by the appointment of James Beattie as Accrington Stanley manager in the last hour.


Did you ever think he would become a manager? Straight in at the deep end there, but will keep an eye on them.

Out of the current crop - who do you think could be a manager in future?


Anyone from the past that you think could be a manager, or became a manager and surprised you in doing so?

I saw Gary Neville yesterday saying that he often finds himself surprised by the players who do go into management.

Kelvin Davis perhaps, and although perhaps not considered part of the current crop, Jaidi seems keen.

It's hard to know without knowing their personalities a bit better, they mostly seem quite quiet and reserved so perhaps not cut-out for management, but as you say, you never know.
 
The blue lot down the road are going to love their 2 fixtures against Accrington then!

In answer to your question : Beattie seems quite switched on, but I'm not sure if I could ever see him managing at the highest level.

He's definitely far from your average footballer, I was chatting to him last season after one of the games and was blown away by his insight and intelligence for a young lad.

I think that is a pretty accurate report of how events unfolded to be honest.

Quite possibly. I have no opinion about that. You asked what Godders was talking about and I was just answering the question you asked.

We don't exactly have a great track record of ex-players managing. Dowie and Micky Adams are two more but there aren't loads.
