If a club has achieved it's ambitions before a certain time of the season then well played to them, they owe nobody else anything in the division in my opinion, you look after your own interests and if others go down at the expense of one of your less passionate performances then big deal. As a United fan I'd prefer my players to be pulling out of dangerous 50/50's with nothing to play for, and not run the risk of starting pre-season late because somebody like Charlie Adam is pissed out of his mind on the pitch and going in recklessly. That's why nobody likes Warnock, he never took responsibility for his own club's awful football, he blamed the entire season on Carlos Tevez.
