I was reffering to the game, not our safety, when i said we should win games like that. You know, games we dominate, create all of the chances and concede a goal to an aging ****e RB from a deflection. WE HAVE TO WIN GAMES LIKE THIS, if we want to progress as all of you tell me will. I thought 39 points would keep you safe when we acheived it, and I think it will now, cannot see Wigan winning both. We dominated possession and chances, yet you tell me this a point won? This game is almost as frustrating as the Swansea game at home, where we should have won it, easily.

It's a point won because now even the most desperate to be desperate among us cannot suggest that we're going down. Well, among the ones who can count, at least.

Why is that game irrelevant? If stoke beat us and Wigan win the next two, and whose to say they won't, Sunderland or us will go down

You fail at math. If that happens, one of Sunderland or Villa goes down.

If Wigan win both their remaining games, Villa go down.

Villa/Sunderland I should say.

No. Villa will.

We are safe and can forward t o next season. We will have a stronger side then for sure and Mauricio will have a full season. We perhaps should have got more points recently but have pulled it out of the nat when we have had to. Am off to Spain tomorrow and can go with a light heart. Enjoy the stoke game.

Go grab a calculator. The only way we can be relegated is if Villa draw with Wigan on the last day, with Wigan having beaten Arsenal and us losing to Stoke with a 12 goal swing. That means us losing 6 nil and Wigan beating Arsenal 6 nil ..... what do you think? Oh and add to that Sunderland drawing with Spurs (which may happen)

Chill out fella; we are safe.

Don't know if anyone noticed, but Qwerty made the right call earlier. He said we were safe with a draw.. Well done Qwerts..!

We can worry about this in a few months time, have a nice summer xxxxxx

Lol, how frustrating. This is a match thread, yet all of you seem to be ignoring the fact that we cannot see games out!! Our form of late has been dire against bottom half sides. Why would all of these 'big name signings' join a team who scraped through at the last, especially as at one point, we were looking likely to finish above West Ham!!

Agreed the chance of us going down is incredibly unlikely almost impossible, so much that i'm not worried. However it's not impossible

If Wigan are on 41, Villa will be on 40, same as us if we lose to Stoke, and Villa will have a minimum - 23 GD. So yes, we're virtually safe.

Simply because Cortese will make them an offer they can't refuse.

Hey guys, I seem to remember somebody said near the start of the season that we'd be 5 points clear going into the final day.

Does anybody know who it was?:smiley-finger007::smiley-finger007::smiley-finger007:

I'm so glad we got the point today for two reasons. We are safe bar the most remarkable final day drama and,...had we lost...as nervous as I would be, this forum would be unbearable.

In much the same way that the final fixtures of the year could be rendered moot because of a zombie invasion is not impossible.

I totally agree. I can see why people who thought there was a chance of relegation are feeling relieved right now, but for those who have higher aspirations than just survival, that was a pretty disappointing result from a game we largely dominated.

The bigger picture is, our league position could be a lot better.

Wigan have a game in hand, put that wagging finger away! <laugh>

Teams don't win by that big a margin at this level. Even top vs bottom. Stoke of all teams aren't going to ever score that many goals. Stoke have 32 goals in 36 games this season. They've only got 12 goals in 17 games away from home! They'll have to score more than that in one game. I call that impossible.

There is either a case of serious blind faith somewhere or a serious amount of assymetric information im missing?! We need to do as well as possible to draw in some world class players! Established players in their prime, we can sign as many Gastons as we like, we need some back bone who will play 7/10 every week with Cork and Schneid, and I have serious fears, much like Man City did last season, we will miss our top targets to other clubs.

We could do with actually putting the ball in the damn net. Our finishing has been absolutely woeful lately. We've dominated so many games and not won since Pochettino took over..it's criminal

And under Adkins we lost to Bristol City... twice...

I don't think that anyone is expecting us to pull in established world class players this summer. However, in getting players who are merely very good at this level, we have the luxury of playing in the Premier League while half of Europe is in financial meltdown, which makes us an attractive proposition, as does the fact that said players are much more likely to actually see the pitch here than at some other venues.

Of course you are right about the performances. I was confident we'd stay up and I am now delighted we are and can happily forgive not having beaten some of these teams and look forward with a positive outlook to next season in the Premier League. Why dwell and ponder now? I have learned this season that we have high aspirations as a club and we can now continue our preparations to achieve that.

I see what you're saying and you are correct, but be concerned about things when it is time to be concerned about them. That isn't today. :)

Tried biting my nails while I'm in Cyprus....bloody hell my nerves were jangling......... thanks Jason for being in the right place at the right time.....Thank you ward-Prowse for the pass in the first place. Well done Saints I think you can go back to playing your game with confidence and poise with the pressure more less off you on the last game......

Wigan play Villa and we're ahead of Villa so only one team can go above us...

Exactly. But BBC don't seem to understand that - they have Norwich and Newcastle as SAFE; and Southampton as 'all but safe'. Their tables are unavailable, so can't check, but am sure that point put us 100% safe. Shame in the sense that we were looking good for a top half finish a while back before we forgot how to score, but still, any point above that line suits me.
