It may be a case that there is a bid lined up for him. There has been rumours of him leaving for a good while now.

Scary to think that a player that cost £9m might be able to walk away for nowt in 12 month's time.

You cannot ealistically offer him a new contract until he is fit again. He may have an injury which never properly heals

Is this why we are in for the Coventry goalie? What is the injury actually? Know its his knee, but thats all.

    IMO

Sell Gordon and bring in Westwood to challenge Mignolet for the Number 1 Jersey and use the money to strengthen other area's of the team

Gordon is a top keeper, I hope once he's back to fitness we get him signed up. I dont have much confidence in Mignolet but hope he proves me wrong.

Top keeper when fit but shrewd tactics from Bruce, how can we offer a new deal to a player with a potentially career threatening injury?

He's top quality, but if he's never fit what's the point?

We can give him a new deal in October and if he turns it down we'll know he's a mercenary bugger like Bent and Carroll.

IMO he's the best Keeper in the EPL when fit and we'd be daft not to offer him a new deal and surley any deal offered could have a fitness clause written into it.

Hes still got 2 years left on his contract, its madness to give him a new deal when under going surgery, if he comes back and shows great form then yes lets offer him a new deal I just dont see how this has even made it onto SSN

SUNDERLAND keeper Craig Gordon has been told that any contract talks are on the backburner until he is fit again.

The £9m Scotland shot-stopper is about to enter the final 12 months of his current five-year deal, and had hoped to sit down with his bosses and discuss an extension.

But Gordon has been out of action since February with a knee tendon problem which eventually required surgery, and he will not be fit for the start of the new campaign.

And now Bruce says no negotiations will take place until the 28-year-old has proved his fitness.

“He has to get back fit and give us the problem then,” said Bruce. “We can’t go into negotiations now with someone who has had a serious knee operation.

“That is the way football is and I think he understands.”

The danger of stalling on contract talks, from Sunderland’s point of view, is that Gordon could decide to let his current deal run down and leave for nothing on a Bosman at the end of next summer.

Sunderland are also looking to add another goalkeeper this summer, and the club is due to hold talks with Coventry’s Republic of Ireland international Keiren Westwood in the coming days.

Westwood is out of contract and is therefore available on a Bosman free transfer.

He's got to prove himself all over again to Bruce and us he'll then get injured yet again, he must have bones like a canary.

Huge mistake imho. Gordon is one of the best keepers in the league and to not sign him up now is a major mistake. I can honestly see him walking away on a free when he is back fit and competing again. How is this going to make him feel? He will be thinking the club didnt back me when I was injured so why should I stay here. He wasnt injury prone when he joined us so to me it is the club that is breaking him down through the training and what have ya...

Big mistake for Bruce to make, hopefully Gordon signs on..

Mig and Westwood and not in competition with Craig when all are fully fit. Hopefully Gordon signs a new deal and proves everyone wrong who doubt him, cause he is a class act and one of the best keepers SAFC have had.
