Did it? We have to applaud him for winning the title for United in our own back yard this Sunday on the back of nearly a decade without a trophy.
I disagree, He's already technically superior to Giroud, Walcott or Gervinho. But he's more of a second striker so we would need to play him behind a CF. (an area we badly need to strengthen) For me the most viable option to catch the likes of City/United is still to invest in top class young talent. (If we STOP selling our established names this strategy would work for us)
Schalke and Dortmund are massive rivals and they hate each other. It's way more fierce than the Bayern-Dortmund rivalry.
Do we really need an attacking midfielder? I had high hopes for eisfeld, but he has only had one sub appearance in the CC game against reading and basically changed the game for us, should have been given a start against Bradford. Either wenger deems he is not good enough and let him move on or give the lad a chance, we already have wilshire, carzola, rosicky, I think there are other areas of the team that need addressing first.
This site seems to think he plays on the left as much as through the middle, although I grant you, he isn't rated as high there. http://www.whoscored.com/Players/96449/
No but he's not really a midfielder - more a 'SS' type forward. He sometimes gets played outwide also. He's very simular to RVP at that age in fact.
Draxler's emergence was part of the reason that Holtby was allowed to join Spurs early. His best position is the one that was vacated, so Schalke brought in Bastos for the left and move the youngster inside. I'm not sure where he'd fit in with your plans, as you already have a number of players in that role, but he does look impressive.
Dortmund selling Goetze to Bayern is even worse than us parting with RVP. They have directly strengthened their major rivals. Sure, they have a lot of money to spend now but who will chose Dortmund over say, City, Bayern, United, PSG etc? Surely when they got the bid in from Bayern they offered him to other clubs outside of their league?
Gotze leaving to join Bayern is pretty ****ish on his part too. You could say van Persie, at 29, moved to win a league title, as he was getting close to retirement. But Gotze has already won 2 titles with Dortmund, is in the CL semis with them and came through their youth system.
Unless you regularly watch Schalke (and apologies if you do) you're in position to say how good he is seeing as he's only recently started getting acclaim.
I follow the Bundesliga. I've seen countless Schalke games, and i honestly reckon Draxler would be a very good fit. Santi can play out wide, and Draxler can just play behind the striker, consider him a replacement for Rosicky.
We have no width when Santi plays out wide. I really don't like how we play when he's on the wing. I'd rather spend on a DM and striker first.
I'm not sure about all this. I think given a pre-season to work out the kinks we may see a new shape to the team. We have a lot of players that play multiple positions and fitting them all together in the best configuration ios going to be a trick. It may be that Wenger feels that Drexler can become an out and out striker. It does seem that something in between Walcott and Giroud is required. The fact that he could play in another position as well, is just a bonus.
