i just don't think stockdale is good enough for the pl, dont get me wrong hes a steady keeper.... but hes hardly great is he? i think if we do go up we need to look for a better keeper.
That matt duke at Bradford looks alright from what I saw of him in the cup (despite the final) bet he wouldn't cost too much either...
If Martin Jol had anything to do with the reported 4 Mill figure then he is off his head.Whether we have the funds or not I can see ways of spending that sort of money that would be far more beneficial than paying over the odds for an average Goalkeeper.
As much as he's done for us this season, and I am genuinely grateful, when I think of a goalie, I don't like associating them with the words "exciting to watch" or "flaps like a bird at the ball". He seems like a nice bloke, and can easily do a job for someone but I hope we have a better goalie next season regardless of which division we're in.
Fulham still rumoured to be after Stekelenburg (sp). If he thinks Stockdale is worth £4m how much is he prepared to spend on his target?
Is it just me who quite likes Stockdale then? He's a steady 'keeper isn't he? He commands his box well (if a little too enthusiastically at times) and he's always really alert. In the last few games he's had a load of dodgy backpasses to deal with and he always gets rid of it without messing about. Against Watford we could have been 2-0 down before we eventually did concede just from underhit backpasses which were nearly intercepted but for Stockdale's lightning-quick reactions to get off his line. We haven't really seen much of his shot-stopping potential, because no one really has any shots at him. I can't think of a goal we've conceded where you'd say "He should have saved that." Jakupovic managed about 3 avoidable goals in two games didn't he?
We need to get Mannone back, Wenger was starting Fabianski recently so he has slipped out of the equation. More fool Wenger if he lets Mannone go, I reckon despite being a bit older than Szecseny Mannone is the better keeper, looks solid not like he will cock up at a critical time like the Polish keeper has and does. The Arsenal fans are clueless regarding Mannone.
You don't think he flaps a bit then ISTPLT? Don't get me wrong, I DO like the lad, and he HAS made some fine saves, and I realise a goalie can't be perfect all the time, but their mistakes can cause a worse situation than say a crappy pass, free kick etc. He just seems to...flap at the ball more than I'd like. If he could sort that out then yeah I'd love to see him stay I guess.
I rate Stockdale too, our fans aren't always the best judges of keepers, there were more than a few saying Guzan was bog standard and he has proven great for Villa. if anything the Prem will suit Stockdale even better like it does Guzan, and Stockdale didn't get an England call up for nothing. I like Mannone better though!
Wenger is rumoured to be after another keeper in the summer too. If so that would surely lower the price a club would have to pay for Mannone?
I don't think he is a flapper but he goes for balls that are a bit ambitious which shows his confidence. He is a good keeper.
Stockers should have done better at wolves, other than that I can't think of any off the top of my head. And wasn't wacko jacko responsible for 3 goals in one game, never mind 2? And guilty of pretending to be injured like a 5 year old playing wrestling, wasting both hospital space and doctors time in the process? Jakupovic can **** off back to his pikey camp from whence he came. Never want to hear of the steaming turd again.
I don't know why we signed him in the first place as reading up on him when we got him he seems to have a lot of personal issues and disputes. If fans want to have a go at one of our keepers it should be him as he's ****e!
It's not even the price tag that puts me off, I really dont think he's that good at all and wouldnt pay £1m for him. And isnt Vito out of contract this summer? He's 5 times the keeper that Stockdale is. Still, the players seem to like him. Did Bruce sign Mignolet?
Think the rumoured fee for Fulham's target is meant to be £4.1 million, so obviously the Fulham owner thinks we are going to pay 99% of the fee of his new signing through buying a keeper who Jol doesn't think is good enough to be 1st choice at the moment and will be further down the pecking order if he goes back to Fulham. In terms of keepers to buy if we go up, what is that situation with Robinson as weren't we linked with him not too long ago and considering we haven't given Jukopic a run of games surely we should be looking at a good reserve keeper as well as a decent first choice hopefully both got for decent fees (no more loan keepers please - we don't want a repeat of the Liverpool loanee we had)
