Just a thought but maybe just maybe After the days of Duffen and Bartlett we could now have a wage/transfer budget in place, maybe until Bullard, Olifinjana etc etc have left that wage bill we'l only sign players that our budget will let us, Sensible strategy maybe?? Alot of people are forgetting we paid fee's for Cam Stewart, James Chester, Joe Dudgeon, Cory Evans, Matty Fryatt, Aaron MCclean and have a 500k bid on th etable for jack Hobbs. Id be interested in how much all these transfers amounted too. We may just of spent the bulk of out transfer budget on the above players, if so so be it im happy with the squad now compared to last season, and id be happy if we only signed freebies so long as Hull city doesnt start spending more than its income, speaking of which when does the Fifa financial fair play rule come in?
the fact remains the allams and the fans want to get back in the premier league, if thats the case we need to spend even more and buy some quality players.
The fans might want to get back to the EPL but I don't think the Allam's have that on the agenda by the way they are buying. We have bought nobody who is above average for this league so far so where do they expect us to finish?
Agreed, Evans and Dudgeon seem to be universally rated based solely on how well Chester and Stewart have done. I'm convinced Evans is not good enough to take us any higher than we finished last season unless he is 3rd choice behind an entirely new pair. As for Dudgeon we know nothing at the moment, so there is no indication that we will be any better than last year so far. We still need 2 goalies and 2 CBs just to get back to the level we finished last season on.
Might be nice if you gave Evans and Dudgeon a chance at a pre-season with Hull city then see how they start next season eh. The days of Negredo and Owen are long gone, somehow i dont think we've got another 5m in the kitty to be splashing on players, AP and NP have already stated they aint going to be throwing money around just because the Allams have alot, the club will be run within its means, no spending more than our income, and after Januarys spending plus Dudgeon and evans (close to ã1m) i cant see us splashing the cash. Maybe something our fans should take into account when there moaning for big name signings.
ã4.2M including the Hobbs deal. We're currently paying over ã5M a year to just 4 players, and our total turnover (without parachute payments) will be ã10-12M. With a wage bill/turnover that's targetted at 60% of turnover or less (not just AP saying that is the target, it's the figure the FL agreed on for the limits in the lower leagues as a sensible figure) it leaves us ã3-4M to pay the remaining 15-20 players that make up the squad (for 1-6 in reserve on a matchday), or ã6k/wk average. Fair play rules start kicking in next summer I think, but it's a staggered introduction* and it only applies to clubs qualifying for European competitions. *You're allowed to have lost money for the time being but the losses allowed are decreasing. It wouldn't be fair to clubs like Chelsea/Man City to change the rules fully and with immediate effect when they have contracts in place that last a few years.
Good give me a Football team to support, rather than one over spending and going in debt like the Duffen era
Cheers Ricardo, 4.2m Not a bad amount for a Championship team. Well there you have it all you who are moaning about free transfers and no cash being spent, i think the wage figures prove we have our hands tied until Bullard etc are moved on.
Good teams don't have to cost a fortune, Norwich have spent ã4m over two seasons and it was enough to get them to the Premier League. Including the bid for Hobbs, the Allam's have exceeded that in six months and we still expect at least another five players to come in, so is far too early to be writing off our chances. Our biggest issue is that getting on for half our entire wage budget is being used up by five players we haven't managed to shift from the old regime, the sooner we see the back of Jimmy, Oli, macca, Killer and Ghilas(long shot), the sooner we'll be able to do some decent business.
My thoughts exactly, Hopefully Killer will be signed by Hudds, had a decent spell with them. Bullard and Oli im not sure whats happening with these two, should be some interest, Like you say Ghilas will probably be the hardest to shift, might be a case of biting the bullet and having to pay him off or use him. Apart from Hobbs i cant see us paying another transfer fee, that is IF we get shut of Bullard etc
No one's asking for marquee signings. In fact I didn't ask for anything at all. I just stated I agreed with what Tiger Roo had said which was that we weren't that good yet. If we sign a couple of goalies and defenders, and add to that Danns and Norris/Greening/Someone like that. Then I'd be very happy and would start talking about playoffs.
My posts are directed at the general mood on here lately not individuals, too many are expecting players like Greening whos got to be on about 20k a week, Even seen frigging Micheal Owen and Hargreaves mentioned as well as Kuszcack, my point is people are not taking into account how much we've spent already which is quite alot, plus like lamrettaman said we still have a big wage bill, with Bullard, Olifinjana etc etc weighing it down, Until they are moved on i cant see us signing many and especially not for big fee's. Agree about us not being il say the finished article rather than that good, id like to see the likes of Dudgeon, Evans, Stewart, Chester, fryatt, Mclean, Rosienior all have a good pre-season under NP and have a lot more time to work on things, we've got some promising players, and im sure a few freebies such as Danns and Norris, Guzan would provide us with a pretty competitive team.
Whoever decided to put Owen, Hargreaves and Kusczak as realistic targets is a bit of a pillock. The greening thing is only being thrown about because we were heavily linked with him earlier this year.
I doubt many of our players are on more then 10k pw (other then those we are looking to shift), doubt we will pay more then that for each of our next signings
i dont like the premiership. Personally I prefer real football. Far too much face paint and tiger suits affecting the football in the premiership
