As early as 1976 Oxford University warned that unemployment would reach three million by the early 1980s as a response of the postwar baby boom, and said there was nothing any politician could to do stop it. The steelworks rationalisation was instigated by Callaghan's government, and the Bilston Steelworks, for example, closed in April 1979. The pit closures were done by Sir Ian McGregor, who if my memory serves me rightly, was first brought in by Harold Wilson. I know we all love a bogeyman, but there are a lot of myths surrounding Margaret Thatcher I still can't stand her kids though, especially Carol who always refers to her as "Mummy" in interviews and Mark is just a crook, allegedly.
"It not as simple as disagreeing with her political views though is it? It's about a moral perspective on the effects of her actions. People's lives should not be reduced to the level of a political game." Saintanton. Hate to break it to you SA but no politician gives a damn about the "people" they are all just in it for themselves and their mates
Just aswell you're not over here ... our government has announced a week long holiday of drink and partying
The only respect she gets from me was keeping the Argentinian bastards in check. Her complicity in the cover up is just classic tory bullshit that should be mentioned far more in the press than it currently is.
it proves the British are no better than the Israelis and the settlements , how the **** does a couple of Islands 3000 miles away from another island belong to each other. Bow I like you but our politics obviously clash , you'll try tell me Northern Ireland is British next
I don't agree mate but for the benefit of the forum I think we should leave it there! I don't mind you either
The French were there briefly... the British were there... the Spanish were there briefly. The only time the Argentines were there was for a couple of years when an Argentine general approached Britain and asked if he could start a colony (of mostly British with a handful of Argentines) that would be answerable to Britain. When he renegged on that and starting flying the Argentine flag... the British kicked him out and his British settlers didn't want to defend him against their homeland so he lost. I could see Argentina's annoyance if they ever had any legitimate claim... but their best claim is because it is west of demarcation line that pope set up and the Argentines kicked the Spanish out. It isn't really comparable to Palestine... or even Gibraltor or Northern Ireland. Argentina never had a legitimate presence on the islands.
I know. That was her opinion, which she was entitled to. Beauty of the free world is being allowed to disagree. Just find the crowing over her death a little distasteful.
She was an elected representative of the people. if you idiots didn't like her, then you shouldn't have voted for her.
Tell me something I don't know. That's my point- respect for someone who was only in it for their own ends and walked all over anyone who got in the way is badly misplaced in my view.
Wait what??? You are a Democracy like here in the US right? If so, Obama is in office and nearly half of the country didn't vote for him!!!
You messer , dont be trying to wum kyle. everyone knows whoever is in power in any country was voted for by all the people , where do you think the word majority comes from ?
Haven't read many stupider things today and I live in Northern Ireland. Congratulations and commiserations pal.
You are joking, of course? When was the last time a government had over 50% of the votes of the electorate? And even if they had 90%, that doesn't mean the disenfranchised 10% have no right to complain.
I mean never have states seceeded, new countries formed, etc from these results..... hell, We are pretty close to having that here now! and a crazy Korean trying to blow us kingdom come!
