I still reckon we're going to break our transfer record (or at least try to), judging by bruce's statement that he wants a 20 goal striker to replace bent.

Maybe we might see a big name striker, only time will tell.

    Here's what he said.

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce admits finding another proven goalscorer will be his priority this summer.

The Black Cats started the 2010/11 campaign with a 20-goal-a-season marksman on their books in the form of Darren Bent.

They end the season without the services of the England international, though, after offloading him to Aston Villa during the January transfer window.

Indentifying and snapping up players with a knack of finding the target is no easy task, but Bruce concedes that he has to plug that gap if Sunderland are to move forward in the future.

"There you go - [Manchester United boss] Sir Alex Ferguson has just won the league, he's in the Champions League final and he wants three players to add to the quality of it.

    Incredible
"Of course, it's going to be difficult. Aston Villa would have been in a hell of a state without Darren Bent. Let's be honest - they came and bought our best player.

"We have to look and scour. That's my job - to try to find another one if we can.

"Darren Bent did fantastically well here and scored a lot of goals. We have to go and find a replacement for him. We have to go and get a proven striker."

I think you are right commachio but, who do we get in? do we go foreign or stay British and pay over the odds?
Personally I reckon (if Bruce is still with us or not) we will see a very good very expensive player coming to us, got a feeling he'll be foreign and a well known face.
Thing is why did we sell Bent to a competitor in the first place someone (not blaming Bruce for this) has to answer for that.

Well when you look at Gyan this season 19 starts 10 goals, I know he's scored coming off the bench but ypu have to think, with a proper pre season behind him and an injury free season.with 30+ starts he'd bang in 15-20 league goals. Id like to see us get Demba Ba, for around 5-6m there won't be many around better value for money. I know a lot of people aren't big fans of a couple of these names but id be more than happy with a forward line selection of Gyan, D.Ba (£5m), Bothroyd/Carew (free), Dj Campbell (£2m)

I think our transfers will come in two phases, a quick influx of bosmans and squad players then a second phase, near the end of the window with one or two big signings and Bents replacement will come then.

Lets not start moaning if we see Bothroyd, Ba or Carew come in, they will be squad back up, off the bench options and will only be first choice starts if they earn it.

Think Cypruss is right....the first signings will be the Bosmans,(which probably won't look too inspiring to many fans) late on near the start of the season will probably bring any "quality" players, hopefully a proven goalscorer being the prize of the bunch.

Would like to see Bothroyd and Danny Graham coming in as squad players. Really hope we've got Seb Larsson too. I think he could be a big player for us next season.

    £9million?

You could by a ten mile radius of Upton Park for that.

Actually, you could do that for £20, what a ****hole.

Remember that fire in the Toon the other day. Get three or four of them a week here - nobody notices.

    Ha ha.

Sounds about right mind, the fires are probably secondary to all the murders.

I may be totally wrong here but I really don't see us breaking out transfer record at all. I don't think we will sign any players over £10m with the majority much less than that or on Bosmans. Maybe N'Zogbia will be the biggest signing but not for over £10m, or we would have paid that 12 months ago wouldn't we? I'd find it somewhat bizarre if we paid that for him now when we could have done so 12 months ago and had a top player in our team?

No, I think we shouldn't build up our hopes that Short will sanction any £10m+ signings at all IMO. I think the noises coming out of the SOL boardroom and managers interviews are more or less telling us that now. There will be quantity but not expensive ones.

It infuriates me, it's one of my biggest gripes in life.

We invent a language, only for our own to take the piss out of it trying to pretend to be someone else.

They should tie their tongues to their bollocks, that'd show them.
