There will be no Away Direct, or Cup Direct next season apparently, something to do with "changes in the regulations on the storage of credit card data".

Seems odd to me, if they can take money for season tickets, why not for these too?

To give everyone a fair shout of away tickets if we get to the premier league?
    Unlike last time.

There were only 61 people in away direct in the Premier League and they were just the original members that had been going to almost every away game since it was set up. The problem in the Premier League was ignoring most fans who'd been going to most away games in the past and giving them to people who'd never been to an away game in their life before.

I thought the Hull City ticket office used an encrypted system ? I was told that once they put the card info in and confirmed it then it cannot be accessed by anyone.

There has to be more to it than this ? As for data protecttion its going down the same road as health & safety has done.....OTT.

If the customer signs a disclaimer and is happy to keep going the same way i dont see why the data protection act nonsense should be an issue ?

The last 2 lines are so very true. It will be interesting to see what the club comes up with as an alternative. For some the PL novelty will have worn off.

    What a load of ****.

The club just haven't got a clue when it comes to getting fans through the ****ing gates.

They've been told time and time again how ridiculous it is to turn people away when we've got plenty of empty seats but they just keep doing these crazy things. Away direct in particular is great for fans as a loyalty thing but it also guarantees income across the season and we're just throwing it away.

We hardly pick up any new fans, and it's no wonder because we don't advertise the club and actually refuse the chance to have people tied down to the club. They'll cancel season passes next. We only seem to care about the 16,000 or so fans we already have. When was the last time anyone on here saw anything in the public domain which might tempt people to come and watch a City game? All we do is put little snippets up on Facebook and Twitter to the fans we already have.

    BLAME NICK THOMPSON.

The man is clearly out of his depth.

I dont see any reason why Data Protecttion can or should be used for binning the Away Direct System.

Whats more Nick Thompson does not listen to anyone. I wonder if the Allams are awhere of his failings ?

Just when things are so good on the field that its such a mess off it. (ie. no forsight as ISPLT has posted)

I can't see why the club would bin this of their own volition, it would make absolutely no sense, I assume there is some sort of data protection issue(possibly because our new ticket system doesn't operate in a way which meets the required rules).

I'll try and get some more info.

Thats the only thing i can think of. Then again paypal dont have any such issues do they ?

As long as the data is encrypted then there is not a problem. Not even under data protection.

Tickler, my man, what the hell do you expect when you live in a country where you need a licence to watch TV, and not having one can land you with a criminal record?

City have messed up with regards to tickets on more than one occasion. They still haven't sorted out the issue with the new turnstile system either. I wonder how many hundreds of people missed Boyd's goal against Birmingham?

this is annoying, ive been in it since the beginning...

its only going to have negative effects on the club too, like a season pass your committed to going or at least paying for a ticket no matter the weather/current form/league position etc..you can only recall 3 a season..

basically if your away at cardiff/portsmouth/swansea on a tuesday night like we have been in recent seasons then your committed to it...
if we are in the championship again next season and burnley away is on a freezing cold night again on sky, chances are if i had to go and get a ticket , i wouldnt bother this time , i realise thats partly laziness on my part <laugh> but dont see why they would object to people committing to paying for every game if they wanted

It's the Payment Card Industry (PCI), you cannot keep credit card details on file, repeat them back to the customer or write them down anywhere, but you can keep bank details on file for the use of direct debits etc. If the 'schemes' use the credit/ debit card details they need to be typed in one transaction at a time. The other way would be to take the money (full balance) on a variable direct debit, but as you can only have one option running at a time for direct debits those paying by fixed direct debit (monthly) for there season cards couldn't use this as an alternative. I suppose the club has looked at the numbers in the 'direct schemes' and based on the above info have decided it was best not to use this as an option. Hope this clears this one up.

It should be upto the customer. Not PCI or the Data Protection issues. imo

Shhh don't go giving out actual facts, they're all on a rant-a-thon.

Considering the PCI standards are basically the least you should ever expect security wise from anyone who stores your credit card details, the fact they've done this should suggest your card details are best off not being stored like that. The clubs done you all a favour, well the few who signed up for this. It's not affecting normal season tickets, its only affecting a small minority of fans. So, stop with the over reactions please.

    Ta.

Bloody hell Tickler. That has got to be one the most ill thought out posts I've seen on any of these forums. I'm slightly convinced you're taking the piss.

If you're not, PM me your credit card numbers, all of them. I promise to look after them.

I can't see why it's so difficult for the club to simply add the Away Direct payments to the season ticket payments, they shouldn't need to bin it.
