I can't see how the hotel could've had their rooms booked up for further guests, as they'd have no way of knowing when they were going home, until they were knocked out.
It's possible that it could've all been arranged after their loss, I guess, but it seems a bit quick.

  2. Agree - it does seem unlikely.
There's a lot of press speculation and as usual little fact to back it up. If the club release a statement on the matter then that would clarify matters.
As it s the Beeb are saying that Ade is def in the squad for today - just have to see how much game time we get out of him.

Just repeating what I read in the South African press. The headline was 'Adebayor causes havoc in hotel' rather than a report on him being late back to Spurs.

  4. The headline wasn't even replicated in the story - which other than mentioning that Ade was trying to organise a private flight back for the squad, indicated that the hotel had surrendered the teams rooms, which does seem a bit premature.
Anyway - let's hope that he's now back and going to start performing at the level we need. Not long enough today to say either way and while his first touch let him down a couple of times, he put a couple of really good through balls in and also created the confusion that led to Bale breaking away for the winner.
And he had a smile on his face which is a good sign!!

Ade and Benni made a real difference for us today, we looked far more balanced and comfortable when they arrived in the second half. Having a recognised striker on the pitch changes the shape of the game for us, something we were lacking in the first half.

Apparently we organised a private Jet for him to get him back in time.

    http://www.itv.com/sport/football/a...to-bring-him-back-from-africa-cup-of-nations/

Andre Villas-Boas has revealed that Tottenham chartered a private jet to ensure Emmanuel Adebayor made it back in time for yesterday's 2-1 win over Newcastle.

Adebayor infuriated some Spurs fans this week when he waited until five days after Togo's elimination from the African Nations Cup before travelling back to London even though he is the club's only fit striker.

Villas-Boas said earlier this week that he wanted Adebayor back in training on Friday, but the 28-year-old did not land back in England until 6pm that day so missed the session at the club's base in Enfield and had to sit on the bench in Saturday's game.

Indeed the only way Spurs could get their man back to Britain was by hiring a plane for him

"Yes, (we sent a jet to get him)," the Spurs manager said.

"He arrived in Luton yesterday around 6 o'clock and then joined the team at the hotel."

Villas-Boas has remained calm when questioned about Adebayor's failure to return earlier all week.

The Portuguese said the former Arsenal striker had "issues" to deal with following his country's exit from the tournament.

If he was angry at the striker's actions, he was not showing it publicly yesterday.

"It was obviously good to have him," said Villas-Boas, who brought Adebayor on in the second half.

"He helped the team get the result so it is good to get him back.

"It's very difficult. First he was authorised to come back on Friday. Some issues arose that have put that comeback in jeopardy, but he still was in time to come back and make an impact from the bench."

Adebayor played an important role in setting up Gareth Bale for his second strike against Newcastle, knocking the ball down to the Welshman before he raced clear and nutmegged Tim Krul with 12 minutes left.

The 23-year-old had set Spurs on their way to victory with a fine 25-yard free-kick which dipped over the wall and beyond Krul in the fifth minute.

The papers are saying that he's due to receive a £160k fine. - That's not gonna go down well if that's true. The last thing we need is ade sticking 2 fingers up.
Perhaps this is why AVB's remained so calm in the press conferences and given him game time at the weekend, as he's tying to keep him onside, regardless of what the board sanction.

AVB's got a good poker face for these things anyway. If ade was being an asshole then I hope he is fined, regardless of the chance he might kick off over it.

If Ade was late then he deserved the fine. He got game time on Saturday because we needed him, and will continue to need him over the next couple of games.

We didn't do badly without him did we? AVB has to punish wayward disobedient players who think that they are above the laws of the club no matter who they are and must bring them down to earth. I'm behind the boss. Now AVB must prove himself against Lyon.

We had some decent attacks on the counter, but we found it extremely difficult after we scored in the first half to build any sort of attack when Newcastle were behind the ball. Dempsey really isn't suitable for that role, and you could see Holtby found it difficult to put his creative spin on our attacks. Adebayor gave us far better balance and I felt we looked a lot more dangerous as Newcastle tried to adapt to the change in style. Prior to that I thought they were well in the game, we should have killed it off after Bale's second.

They were only in the game because of that huge slice of luck known as a deflection but we digress. I noticed Ade's first touch was missing as usual and he needs to work on it but I do agree with your comments about Dempsey. I saw Ade on one good counter attack but I didn't have the confidence in Ade to do anything with it. It should have been Bale who killed it off,he had the chances.

This is another problem with having the ACoN in the middle of the European season. The organisation before, during and after the tournament is appalling.
Whilst I'm perfectly willing to believe that Adebayor made a hash of his return, it also wouldn't surprise me if the whole thing was just a massive balls up.

  14. Which is what the only formal comments allude to. Haven't seen any official sources talking about fines.
Will be interesting to see whether these rumours actually amount to anything or whether it is a bit of media wind-up. Wouldn't be the first time.........

They were in the game because they deserved to be as they came and gave it a go, plus we didn't have a real grip on the midfield for a fair part of the game. Okay, they had the deflection but at least 2 of our players and maybe even 4 of our players were lacking in concentration when they broke down the right hand side for the goal.

Midfield found it hard because there was no out ball, playing Dempsey in that striker role means you limit the ability to develop the play in the final third, because it is not his strength. Ade is an out and out striker who plays the lone role very well. Sometimes the impact a striker can have in this area is overlooked. People often only look at the obvious things such as goals when judging impact on a game (not saying you are).

I was at the game, for me he worked hard and had an important impact. His touch wasn't perfect but I didn't detect any attitude problems. He deserves his punishment, but hopefully we can move on and benefit from having him around.

'If' the Earth stopped spinning we'd all fall off, and maybe,
'If' a car had legs, it would be a donkey. Also consider this,
'If' a man had a hole between his legs, then he might be a woman.
