Because, and this may surprise some of you, football is a team game. You could have the greatest defender ever playing for you but if the rest of the team aren't up to standard you will still struggle.

Anyway I think we should have a look to see what players there are under the Bosman ruling. Often some canny out of contract players become available and it would make more cash available to fill in other places.

I thought Mensah show of pettiness on Saturday in not offering a young lad making his debut (was it not the central defender not Lynch though) his hand was shocking. As a senior pro that this club have supported through his ridiculous injuries, he owed Bruce and the youngster more than that.

Mensah will not be a Sunderland player next season IMO and shouldnt be either.

Agreed about the team game. But given that the remnants of our team don't seem very impressive, what's the point of filling it out with relegated cast-offs? They'll find themselves back to square one surely?

In regards to the argument about taking players from.relegated being not good enough, see player of the year Scott Parker who will be playing European football next season at tottenham

    It's a moot point.

Anyone who tells me Roger Johnson is not better than Turner (who i like, actually), has been on the crystal meth.

Likewise, we've universally approved of moving for Samba, i can't remember a single voice of contempt.

If Blackburn drop, does that mean we all change our mind???

    Does it ****!

I'b be looking at Noble, Ba and potentially Rob Green off West Ham as well.

Forget Greens high profile mare at the world cup, he's a top drawer keeper, who just needs a bit of confidence back.

And compare West Ham's results to when he was playing, and when he wasn't. Bloody one man team. Slightly different.

Mensah is a class player on his day but does not have the height to play against a more direct style of play. Against teams who keep the ball on the deck then I think he is invaluable with his experienced reading of the game and his strength. If he were to be signed up permanently then I think his games need to be with this in mind. This presupposes that we have alternative fit centre backs to play, if we don't and have to play Mensah then we will come unstuck. I feel the same about Richardson and left back-great going forward but his lack of height and physique will be a weakness when we are pressured by the high ball and especially at set pieces.

I think it was Stoke away that really brought that home to me about Mensah. Seems like you really have to be a big unit to be an effective Premier CB.

Big, fast and a decent distributor of the ball if at all possible. Too much to ask?

People seem to be forgetting that Bramble was outstanding until his injury. First team definite for me next year. Samba alongside him would be top class. And I'd take Demba Ba nee bother. Looks a very good striker an wouldn't cost that much compared to some of the strikers we've been linked with in terms of fee and wages.

Also...just saw the mags board...some actually reckon they could get Drogba next season <laugh>

We all know the majority of geordies are delusion but samba coming here is nearly as far fetched, the tope 6 would be all over it, never mind top clubs in spain. italy, germany. I think he's just what arsenal need at the back.

You hit the nail on the head mate,

Samba is top class and deserves to be in a top team with a chance of winning something.
