Whilst I agree with your comment about there being a historic rivalry between Leeds United and Manchester United (just out of interest, the single Man United fan from Manchester I've come across ranked it behind their rivalries with Manchester City and Liverpool though), I think your knowledge of the War of the Roses leaves a lot to be desired. <doh>

Edit: Having just decided to read the previous comments, I see at least 3 people beat me to it. <laugh>

On the topic of our biggest rivals, it has to be the Scunts, though I have a healthy hatred of Grimsby, Lincoln and Sheffield United (quite like Wednesday though, TBH).

I do see why some may say Leeds, though it's only between us and those Peacocks fans who live in East Yorkshire. It's definitely not reciprocated when considering those from North, South and the (historically unrecognised) West.

I always found it hard to have any genuine dislike for Scarborough, their fish and chips were too good.

Though for reasons I can't explain, I never felt quite the same about Bridlington.

Strangely enough Barnsley never get mentioned, thats ok with me because I have friends from there and I actually enjoy going to visit them when I'm home and try and get to at least one game at Oakwell.
Apart from Leeds they are probably our closest divisional rivals now along with Donny but it's hard not to like them tykes they are a nice bunch of football fans

I can't stand Barnsley, I know a few people who support them and they're always banging on about how they're bigger than us. Are they ****. An FA Cup win 100 years ago can be pretty much ignored in this argument.

Not keen on Donny either, was hoping they'd go down with the Blades.

If you think The War Of The Roses (which no one referred to as such until centuries later) was anything to do with a war between Yorkshire and Lancashire I suggest you spend a bit of time looking it up.

Apologies, didn't read all the psots and notice others had put him right.

Worth noting that the Hull Army fouight on the Tudor sie, as did other armies in Yorkshire whilst a lot of the Yorkist support was in the Midlands and down south.

I will wait until the final part of next season to see who are rivals for the automatic promotion are.
They will then technically be our biggest rivals.

In the meantime I'll just continue hating TWS.

Am I the only one who isn't obsessed with hating Leeds? Yeah, I think there's considerably more to dislike about them than most other clubs <whistle>, but I have a lot of respect for them and their support.

The one thing I don't like is the arrogance of a lot of their supporters, which disappeared for a while when they went down to League One, much to the joy of every non-Peacocks supporter in the country, only to make a comeback after they beat Man United in the cup last season.

this subject pops up now and again.. I think a lot depends on your generation.. and it also depends on recent league positions..

My dad who is 78 says Grimsby are City's main rivals.. I think Leeds and Sheffield United are the teams to beat.. We'd had such a poor record in the league against the Blades that when we won there 3-2 this season it was a fantastic feeling..

Nothing against Donny & Barnsley.. Scunny are traditionally a lot smaller club

When I first started following City, York & Lincoln were on our level now where are they? amateurs.. ha my dad actually feels sorry for Lincoln but he couldn't care less about Grimsby though..

It's representative of the Yorkshire-Lancashire rivalry. Leeds are the biggest club in Yorkshire and Man U are the biggest club in Lancashire. It's the battle of the counties. Ask what a 'roses rivalry' or a 'sporting War of the Roses' is and everyone will know what you mean. I don't really care what took place on various battlefields several centuries ago, it has nothing to do with football fans. That's just the way it's described and it's a pretty useful term for a Yorkshire versus Lancashire fixture.

Well I said by my definition and I then explained why history and geography come into play as well which, let's be honest, are two pretty significant reasons for a lasting rivalry/derby/grudge. Every real Man U fan I know dislikes Leeds to some extent, some of them more than Leeds fans tend to hate Man U. They won't like me saying this, but a large amount of their fans still mock Leeds fans for the murders in Turkey. Of course they're the first people to start whining when Munich is mentioned in any capacity.

So the actual facts have no relevance when compared to Loiners inaccurate opinion.:emoticon-0102-bigsm:emoticon-0102-bigsm

No wonder people laugh at the deluded TWS.:emoticon-0102-bigsm

OK then Captain Arsey, substitute any mention of Roses or Wars for 'Yorkshire vs Lancashire Rivalry'; does that satisfy you?

I'd point out that this thread is meant to be about Hull City. For some reason all you seem to want to discuss is Leeds United...

Nah, I'm not arsey, I simply pointing out why your attempt at dragging attention to TWS is failing miserably, which is making your bottom lip poke out. After all, it's you that keeps mentioning us on TWS board. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Look, if you want to say we're your rivals, you can, it's probably more realistic than claiming Man U are your rivals when you're in no position to beat them at anything at all, which is what a rivalry's supposed to be about. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Too many TWS fans plaster the boards with nonsense in the hope they can be disliked instead of just ignored. Quite sad really isn't it. :D
