    Afternoon all!

I know it's still a week to way but I think there will be lots of discussion around the team for this match. So two main questions

    1. Who would you field at Old Trafford?

    2. Who do you think MP will actually pick?

Our new CB is itching to get a game and I'm having nightmares about Jos v RVP and the pace of Welbeck. Personally I think I'd replace Jos with Forren and keep the side that started against Everton but should Forren start considering his lack of recent matches?

What do we do up front? Play as we did against Chelsea or try to nick an early goal and have Rickie on at the start?

Possibility of course that we may still bring in one or two signings before next week but that would be a real baptism of fire!

Personally I'll settle for a one or two goal defeat but the way we've been playing we could surprise them!

    Thoughts.

Do a Mick McCarthy and rest all our key players. Leave Morgan, Rickie, Clyne, Shaw, Puncheon, Gaston in Southampton and play a load of reserves. We're not going to get anything anyway and we can afford the fine. Pochettino won't do this but I would be happy if he did.

I am aware that I will be in the minority here but we don't need any injuries or suspensions for games that are actually winnable. The next game after this is Wigan away I think so we need our best team available for that game.

    Team I would put out:

    -------------------------Boruc------------------
    --Richardson-----Hooiveld------Yoshida----Fox
    -----------------Davis---------Chaplow--------------
    -----De Ridder-----------JWP------------Guly
    ---------------------Rodriguez---------------------

Subs: Davis, Butterfield, Forren, Lee, Chambers, Lallana (if fit), Cork.

Same team as Everton but hopefully providing they are ready Forren and Lallana in for Hooiveld and Guly.

I'm sure some people wanted to do this at Chelsea as well though.

Yes was just going to post the same thing. I don't think we can afford to throw away the chance of any points even though realistically we will probably get beat. We play the reserves and get tonked 8-0 and all the good recent defensive work is ruined!

Sorry but going to Chelsea where the crowd get on the manager's back when it starts to go pear shaped one thing, going to United is another matter entirely. I just can't see us getting anything out of the game whatever team we put out.

    ----------Boruc
    Clyne Yoshida Forren Shaw
    -------Schneiderlin
    ------Cork---Chaplow
    Puncheon----------Lallana
    --------Rodriguez

This, I believe, is the best counter-attacking team we could put out. Forren is a fantastic passer of the ball and capable of catching United unaware. I was a fan of Adkins' bold strategy to bring Lambert and Gaston on later in the game, and I agree with him that Rodriguez is better for counter attacking and breaking through a high defensive line. And yes, I'm serious about Chaplow. He's a workhorse.

And Chaplow has scored against Man U as well. I quite like that lineup Joe.

It's negative. We are good enough to beat anyone anywhere, we just lack the confidence and self belief as a team and fans to do it. We've already proved this season we are good enough to compete with them. I'd play an unchanged side from Everton. If Lambert is tired then start Rodriguez.

I think this game will be one for a Chelsea type strategy. Man U will have Giggs, Scholes and some other big hitter on the becch to follow the predictable trajectory of playing like **** for an hour and carving us open late on. Man U's defence is leaky as **** and I think we could get some joy out of reversing the roles.

Lambert and Gaston on the bench.

We have to put out a strong side...a decent performance would do wonders for confidence in the Wigan game. At the very least, would give Poch a practice game. Need wins against Wigan and Newcastle.

Yep. Why some would want to throw away a 6 match unbeaten league run without a proper fight blows my mind

Well as we're probably going to get comprehensively beaten either way it makes more sense to protect our most valuable players IMO.

I love how Lamballana has to post a thread regardless of how early it is i reckon we will have a summer transfer rumour thread before easter. surely the mods need to lock these threads as they always end up going off topic or people repeating each other because its to much hassle to trawl through 300 pages of posts.

We should play our stongest team. United have conceded a lot of goals this season - no reason we can`t take something from the game, especially since we are now far tighter defensively, and sorted out the keeper problem.

Yeh, gotta say Lamballana does seem to be more obsessed with trying to get people to post in his threads, rather than the content of the thread.

Or he just enjoys the basic purpose of internet forums; creating and having discussions?

Hear hear! I enjoy Lamballana's threads on the whole. Don't forget that as well as the regular match team ones he does throw in some fairly random and usually thought-provoking ones as well. I do think he has made a bit of a rod for his own back by "forcing" himself to post a new thread every day but I personally don't object to it at all.
