Yep, sometimes you have to accept you won't see a lot of the ball. Counter, counter, counter.

Yep. And to be honest, I don't understand the positivity from some Saints fans for this match. Some people are saying we can get something out of this match. Well they'll be disappointed when we lose. I won't because I'm 100% negative for this match. That way I won't be disappointed when we lose but will be ecstatic if we somehow get a result.

Team I would put out:

-------------------------Boruc------------------
--Richardson-----Hooiveld------Yoshida----Fox
-----------------Davis---------Chaplow--------------
-----De Ridder-----------JWP------------Guly
---------------------Rodriguez---------------------

Subs: Davis, Butterfield, Forren, Lee, Chambers, Lallana (if fit), Cork.
What get beat 6 nil and lose our better goal difference!?

Old Trafford is by a long way the hardest ground to get a result from. A lot harder than Stamford Bridge at the moment anyway.

The Etihad is just as hard and we almost got something there. We've played Stoke, Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton in the last 6 and haven't lost. I think we can get something if we play well.

Boruc
Clyne Yoshida Hooiveld Shaw
Cork Schneiderlin
Puncheon Ramirez Guly
Rodriguez

Subs: Davis, Richardson, Fox, Davis, Chaplow, De Ridder, Lambert.

Do a Mick McCarthy and rest all our key players. Leave Morgan, Rickie, Clyne, Shaw, Puncheon, Gaston in Southampton and play a load of reserves. We're not going to get anything anyway and we can afford the fine. Pochettino won't do this but I would be happy if he did.

I am aware that I will be in the minority here but we don't need any injuries or suspensions for games that are actually winnable. The next game after this is Wigan away I think so we need our best team available for that game.

Team I would put out:

-------------------------Boruc------------------
--Richardson-----Hooiveld------Yoshida----Fox
-----------------Davis---------Chaplow--------------
-----De Ridder-----------JWP------------Guly
---------------------Rodriguez---------------------

Subs: Davis, Butterfield, Forren, Lee, Chambers, Lallana (if fit), Cork.

Way too defeatist, sure a result is unlikely but blackburn managed to get a win there last season so it is not impossible.

I think in the PL you have to look at getting a result in every match. Surprise results turn up week after week. No-one expected uis to get anything at Chelsea so why not at Man U. If we don't draw a line and on to the next one!

I am surprised that you are so totally negative about this game Tom. I know that you go to quite a few away games, so this surprises me even more as we have been really good on the road the past couple of months. Man Utd are top of the league and RVP is a fabulous striker BUT they do concede goals, Saints played them off the park for 70 minutes early in the season when we were not as good as we are now, and imo Saints CAN get something from this game if they play to their best and Utd have a bit of an off day - it can happen. No, i would be disappointed if we field anything other than our strongest available starting 11.

Well as we're probably going to get comprehensively beaten either way it makes more sense to protect our most valuable players IMO.

We need to pick the players that will give us the best chance of getting something from the game. I'm not expecting us to win but keeping the goal difference down is a nice consolation prize.

Don't agree with resting players, they are just as likely to get injured in training or if they have attended the Dave Beasant school of injury it could happen because of a condiment!

We will play basically the usual suspects (don't know how match fit Forren is), so any difference we will see will be a more attacking style. Let's hope we aren't caught out on the break against United.

Forren will play for Norway over the break, which is good timing from a match fitness perspective.

Teams don't often win at OT, but it's been done (by us a few times+), so we need to approach this game with our usual optimism. RVP aside, this Man U team is a pretty poor one and I am feeling positive if we set out to play the game over 90 minutes.

Utds 2 biggest strengths are also thier 2 main weaknesses. 1 midfield of Carrick and Cleverley are improving but we showed that if you boss the midfield then utd struggle, once you allow them to play thier short passing game then they will wipe the floor with you. Morgan,JWP and Davis bossed them for 70 minutes then they were a spent force, with Cork we should have a bit more energy but I would have Chaplow on the bench for replacing tired legs. 2 Utd have quality throughout but Fergie does change his team alot, we can hope that he may rest a couple of key players like RVP and Rooney but they may well be on the bench and come on when our team are tired. We will have to make early subs if we are to play our style of football, Rickie and Gaston probably subbed after 60 minutes with a fresh midfielder as well

We will lose but i want a good team out, we saw what happened when we had a week of before and then we were disappointing, gotta keep momentum going. In the end playing against man u wont affect players performance against wigan
