What is the point in mentioning signings and saying "we want to bring 2 players in", when he has no intention of signing anyone? It's almost like Wenger enjoys making us hate him. If we don't make top 4 due to his refusal to spend, there should be only 1 outcome.
All he said is we can make Top 4 with the guys we have. Where did you see "I have no intention of signing anyone"?
"We want to be in the top four – that’s the priority.” You think we cannot get into the top four as we are now? I think we can.” Looks like he thinks we don't need signings. Match point to me.
It would also be a PR/team morale clanger of the highest order, especially if he misses out on his transfer targets.
You need to realise that whatever he says to the press he says it to his own players as well. It is always on his mind I think. So what do you expect him to say? That the current squad are unable to finish 4th? That he does not trust his players? That we have no strikers good enough for Arsenal? That current midfield can not cope without a proper DM? I am sure he cares much more about how his words will affect his players rather than how it will please you. Or me, or any other fan.
