As I mentioned before, someone on Sky said that Southampton wouldn't let 'Arry sign players without a clause regarding relegation and the type of players he wanted to sign wanted huge money without a reduction if we were relegated. Sensible...whether the expensive players he wanted would have kept us up we will never know...but they would have bankrupted us sooner.

I know some teams are richer than others and pay more for players, but it has to bear some relationship with income. QPR haven't the income or the ability to attract massive sponsorship. This is like the immorality of what happened at Portsmouth and it is no coincidence that the same manager is involved. The fans are suspecting its success or bankruptcy.

And success/bankruptcy isn't always an either/or, as Pompey discovered. QPR's wage-to-turnover ratio has to be the highest in the PL at this point, and Fernandes is no fool; while he and the Mittals have plenty of money, they aren't likely to want sustained wages anywhere near the level which they are approaching. Clearing out the deadwood will help, but they can ill-afford to have even a competitive mid-table team with a large number of players on 60k+ p/w, not unless they can build (and fill) a stadium double the size of Loftus Road by next Tuesday.

Tancredi Palmeri on Twitter:

"Southampton pressing Bologna to release danish defender Sorensen"

Also says he thinks there are very good chances of Saints getting him.

If we get Sorensen and Forren it could open up a move for Fox potentially. Forren becoming LB cover with Yoshida, Fonte and Sorensen as the options for CB should Shaw get injured

Forren and Sorensen would be a ridiculously good haul. Add a true winger and it will be a fantastic transfer window.

Fox makes a nice defensive option for left-midfield as well though. But so does Reeves I suppose.

You say Fernandes is no fool....football makes fools of us all. Redknapp seems to be able to convince people of anything...must have convinced Fernandes that these outgoings would save QPR and he would be aware of the cost of relegation.

Just read this. The man is a total hypocrite!

It was something Redknapp found staggering when he took the job in December. "I fined a player last week and he was earning more than any player earned at Tottenham," Redknapp said at the time.
"You shouldn't be paying massive wages when you've got a stadium that holds 18,000 people."

We seem to be in the same market as QPR in regard to asking price, but the difference seems to be in wages. I'm sure Ramirez broke our wage ceiling, but doubt he is anywhere near as high as those at QPR. When Cortese was asked about a year ago would he ever pay massive wages (can't remember actual wage quoted), he said, 'Yes, when we are in a 45,000 seat stadium and are in the Champions league.' A few fans made the mistake of taking that as a statement of intent, but was actually just a longer way of saying: No way, Jose.

On Sky, Graeme Le Saux says that Southampton have gone from a team he thought would get relegated to a team he has confidence in. He hopes we will stay up because we are well run, have great fans and play positively. Good lad.

Hang on... we aren't allowed a (nother) good transfer window. Cortese knows nothing about football, signs all the players and gets Nigel to make his tea. What will there be to moan about?

Even if we get no-one (won't happen), the turn around Nigel has done with the team is amazing. Forget league position as we are still only two points above the drop, but the way we have gone from shipping loads to looking fairly steady is great. Hope Chelsea don't blow too big a hole in that comment.

Good comment - and even if we lose 4-0 tonight your comment is still valid as that will only be a one-off. Saints are pretty secure at the back now - and thats with our present first team, and even with Fonte out. In recent weeks we have lost Clyne and Fonte to injuries and still the team has defended well in all league games.

Still hard to imagine that 3.5 years ago Nicola was working in a bank, he really seems like a 15 year football veteran. As for Nige, he just gets better and better.

I have to agree that we do seem to have turned a corner in reference to the amount of goals we are letting in. (although the teams we have played have not been as strong apart from Chelsea and Arsenal) i still firmly believe though that if we do not strengthen then we will be in serious trouble. I have to say i am dumb founded that we have got to the 15th jan and still not made a signing but i am also pleased that as yet it hasn't really cost us any points. We will probably lose tonight but we need to get something on monday against a very good Everton team and if jos is at the back it will make it even harder.
