M'Vila and Toure have different attributes, but as far as strength, tackling, positioning and passing are concerned, M'Vila is as good as Toure, and could still improve. Remember M'Vila is only 22, he could easily be a world beater.

Toure can attack and score goals, but I don't see why M'Vila couldn't develop that skill like Toure did in his career. Nevertheless, I want M'Vila for his strength in midfield and the attributes that would see him fit right into our team.

As for discipline... we need a few personalities on the field.

Toure was an all-rounder since he was a teenager.

Oh and Gourcuff I never rated, even when he was regularly hyped and when I used to follow Ligue 1 more closely. Can't say I was surprised that he didn't match the expectations.

Never had the work rate or persistence to be a great midfielder.

I still believe we will buy two players this window OK so its gone a bit quiet but I prey we get some quality in and some sh t out

I would be pleased if we got a player who is already in the prem

I am surprised so many people here advocate us signing M'Villa. I don't have anything against the guy, but I don't see him as a "Great" of world Football. You can claim that he is not as bad as RVP, but Wenger obviously saw something in him that he felt he could work with. If he doesn't see that in M'Villa, why buy him?

M'Villa today, as he is now, is not a huge upgrade on our team. He isn't like Yaya Toure (who he will have to play against, or at least be rated against). I agree with those who say we need genuine star players brought in, a big "name" who the fans can all get behind. A player that no one will argue about. I want them to break the bank for him. Exagerrating for effect, I want them to pay a fee of 50M and a salary of 200K/week and he needs to be of such stature that the other players are not going to complain. M'Villa is not that person.

Edit: Oh and I don't want him to be French. We have gone that route too often. French football is still declining, we need to pick someone who is from Spain or Germany.

I totally disagree. M'vila has everything. Pace, power, aggression and technique.

Marcel Desailles recently was quoted as saying that he will be "better than Vieira".

The top clubs have been put off by impending law suites and a string of incedents. For that reason he's a risky investment. Another 'Balotelli' if you will.
I have a lot of faith that with the right guidance he will be a TOP class defensive midfielder. He's already better than most.

This is a guy who at 19 was France first choice DM ahead of Sissoko, Toulalan, Diarra,Flamini, and Diaby.

I just want to pull out a section of what you have written - "...but I don't see why M'Vila couldn't develop that skill like Toure..." - So here is my problem; You admit M'Villa hasn't got the skill to be a world beater right now. We need to buy someone who is is a star in my opinion. Not buy someone and hope. Let alone someone (as SJW10 says) on who expert opinion is very divided.

I have only seem M'villa play twice and was very unimpressed with him on both occasions, now maybe he just had a couple of off games, and I know it is difficult to make a judgment on two games, so am not going to say that we should not sign him. Some people on here seem to have a very high opinion on him and I'm not sure if it is just desperation on some of our fans part or maybe they have genuinely seen him play well. However the way some people are talking he sounds like the second coming of christ. I am also very sceptical that rennes are practically giving him away and the only club that seem interested in him are a desperate club likely to be relegated, but as I have said some people must have seen him a lot more times than myself to have this very high opinion of him so I will go by what others have said.

.

Lets not get to carried away, I remember people saying David Bentley was the new Dennis bergkamp, and look how that worked out, so I would not pay to much attention to comparisons with great players.

I remember Kevin Gallen being referred to as the next Gary Lineker <ok>

Only Arsenal fans though. It's not like he was hyped by anyone outside the club.

When managers and players of other clubs start signing your praises then its something different.

I think that this guy is a good buy. Not the superstar I mentioned, but the sort of player that can fill in anywhere and will be willing to be a "squad player". Also ex-Ajax players seem to do well in the PL. Still think we should sign a superstar as well, but I think this guy gives us cover all over the field except CB and CF.

Edit: He began his career as a left-back.

We don't need someone who is a 'huge upgrade'. We don't need a £50m signing. We need squad depth. A player who is good enough to take Arteta's place if he is injured or needs rest. It's hardly a surprise that Cazorla and Arteta look so poor recently considering Wenger doesn't trust Coquelin or Rosicky or Ramsey enough to start them.

Sorry, it may just be me, but I can't see the connection between Wenger not trusting Ramsey/Coquelin enough to start them, and Cazorla/Arteta looking poor. Can you explain that a bit more please.

Non permiership players are a massive gamble in a January window they almost all take the rest of the season to settle

Can we buy quality from another premiership club ?

Why are we after Gourcuff when we don't need a CAM? And he's also a bit ****. Bummed that QPR are getting M'Vila, he could be a good fit for us.

There is no proof that we are after Gourcuff,it's only a rumour. As has already been said,if M'Vila is so good how come only the team that is bottom of the PL is after him.

Because everyone is concerned about his attitude problem. Though it apparently pales into insignificance compared to the crap Van Persie got up to before we signed him.

Arteta and Cazorla have been playing too often. Cazorla in particular looks tired and off the pace. There's also the fact there isn't really any competition for places pushing Arsenal players to perform to stay in the first team.
