Skysports also said last year that their 'sources' understood that Arsenal had made a £20m bid for Downing.
Yeah probably! but I cant see Zaha coming in unless Walcott is in fact leaving. With Walcott, Oxo, Podolski, Gervinho also Rosicky/Carzorla (and Ryo and Campbell on loan) we're fully stocked in that position.
The Sun linking us to Mo Diame. Would be a good acquisition if it's true. Would like to have him at Arsenal.
And M'vila. Bit gutted about M'vila as he looks class, shame about his attitude. Glad he hasn't gone Spurs though.
Shame about M'Vila as he is exactly what we need in a midfield enforcer. I know that we have been linked with Diame in the past, perhaps our non pursuit of M'Vila is that we are reigniting our interest in him.
I can't work out what's happening with M'Vila. I'm not sure QPR are close to signing him either. Arry loves to chat about the players he's in for, not that he's a wheeler dealer or anything . . but apparently M'Vila has said he doesn't want to go to QPR; which would suggest he wants to go to a bigger club - ours ? Unless there's something going on in the background that we don't know about, I can't see why we wouldn't make a bid for him. He looks like a quality player, he wants to move, we need a defensive midfield player and Rennes are not asking for a fortune for him
The funny thing about M'Vila is that his misdemeanours pale in comparison with how Van Persie conducted himself when he was younger. Here is a good rundown of his current predicament: http://inbedwithmaradona.com/the-100-for-2012/2012/12/8/yann-mvila.html You'd hope that Wenger would take a punt, though I'll admit I know nothing of the player other than what has been written. As for Remy, he's supposedly getting £70k per week at QPR (if the transfer goes through). Considering his recent form, it adds a whole new perspective on Gervinho getting the same amount.
Diame is injured so I can't see Arsenal going for him. Why Wenger isn't in for M'Vila at that price who knows!? He seems exactly what Arsenal need at present.
I find it interesting that only the team who is bottom of the PL is showing any interest in M'Vila. It tells you something
Wenger has been after him and Bezenma for years. Maybe now he'll be willing to splash. Gourcuff could be World Class ....if he could stay fit.
Gourcuff has yet to play for Lyon this season according to that article. He won't be ready to play for us, so he would be pointless because we need players that come and have an impact straight away. For that money, we could possibly get someone like Diame.
I am surprised so many people here advocate us signing M'Villa. I don't have anything against the guy, but I don't see him as a "Great" of world Football. You can claim that he is not as bad as RVP, but Wenger obviously saw something in him that he felt he could work with. If he doesn't see that in M'Villa, why buy him? M'Villa today, as he is now, is not a huge upgrade on our team. He isn't like Yaya Toure (who he will have to play against, or at least be rated against). I agree with those who say we need genuine star players brought in, a big "name" who the fans can all get behind. A player that no one will argue about. I want them to break the bank for him. Exagerrating for effect, I want them to pay a fee of 50M and a salary of 200K/week and he needs to be of such stature that the other players are not going to complain. M'Villa is not that person. Edit: Oh and I don't want him to be French. We have gone that route too often. French football is still declining, we need to pick someone who is from Spain or Germany.
M'Vila and Toure have different attributes, but as far as strength, tackling, positioning and passing are concerned, M'Vila is as good as Toure, and could still improve. Remember M'Vila is only 22, he could easily be a world beater. Toure can attack and score goals, but I don't see why M'Vila couldn't develop that skill like Toure did in his career. Nevertheless, I want M'Vila for his strength in midfield and the attributes that would see him fit right into our team. As for discipline... we need a few personalities on the field.
