That right wing Austrian politician wiped himself out in one while liberally lubricrated with the old turpentine substitute if memory serves.

Didn't think Godwin's law would be invoked on an Automobile thread!

Nice try.He was allegedly driving home from a gay bar at twice the speed limits at the time,so public safety and sex too! Must admit on his wiki entry he looks rather fetching in lederhosen.

I like motors and motorsport, but have no brain for engineering and don't really understand how they work. Went on a track day last year drove a Ferrari and Aston Martin, then took a rally car (can't remember which make) on the gravel. The first two were brilliant, the rally car unbelievable but also terrifying.

Favorite car owned - and back to the OP - Golf Mk V GTI Pirelli special edition. 230 bhps of fun especially with the DSG box.

Owned briefly all the 60's hot stuff.Lotus Elan,E type,Cortina Uren Savage with the 3litre V6.The latter I think I paid £275 off a Lightning pilot at RAF Coltishall! I made a profit on most of them so took it up full time and have owned a garage since 1977.

I must disagree about the octavia being crap. my mate has one as a reps car. I've driven it several times. very quiet, very responsive. not a bad motor at all.

Series 1 Octavias and Fabias were far superior to their VW and (may god forbid) SEAT equivalents.

Build quality and door shuts in particular were in a different league. Both great cars although the second series were a pile of ****e in comparison.

Best Skoda I ever owned was a Czechoslovakian built Favorit, far better than the later fuel injected models. (rust aside!)

Hand on heart I thought you were referencing Adolf Hitler. He's the only right-wing Austrian poitician I know of!

Nines, its hardly the Skoda Superb is it? Other than that I'd guess its either a Beamer, Audi or Merc of some description. I'd rule out the Opel (Vauxhall) Astra and Vectra as you said its the Golf's big brother.

    A 1 series? 3 series? 5 series? Audi A4? Merc A class? C class? E class?

What about a Seat Ibiza? . :headbang:

Your bike got swallowed up by a flurry of activity last night Imaz. Its a quality looking motorcycle. Looks like the bikes used in old WW2 movies. Am I right?

I've not ridden a two-wheeled machine since I came off a moped in the Greek mountains and smashed my arm to bits over 10 years ago. Myself and motorbikes don't get on too well. I still admire them aesthetically though.

Mid sixties Aermacchi Ala Verde. I had the later 350SS but the Ala Verde was the most beautiful IMHO.

Another beauty from a few years later, mine got nicked but they found the number plate!

This thread should be called building bridges - wubba and I realising we as good as brothers, swords and imaz getting on. Maybe congleton's thread earlier today has given us all a greater perspective, a reminder at least. I like it when we go off topic.
