Shame what happened to Autobianchi, the A111 and the "Bianchina" were very pretty cars for their day. A112 was legendary though, mate of mine had one in London with Italian plates but the climate killed it with rust. Can't remember if it was the Elite or Elegant but it had a weird "very long" 5th gear, metallic grey.
Good choice. The current 159 is my favourite car. Nobody does style like the Italians. . Nothing wrong with that. If badge snobs want to miss out on a great line up like Skoda's then its their loss. The new Octavia is coming out soon. Looks good from the pictures I've seen. 625? Must be hard to keep the speed down! Cheers mate, will do.
My mate who lives 3 floors above us in our appartments lets m use his porsche 911 Carrera 3 on a regular basis. Nice to drive and grips like f**K !I only managed to get this opportunity as we went out to get a new car. he wanted a bit more understated for bussiness meetings. So after visiting a few dealerships, he ended up with an AMG C63(i think) Merc. 6.3 litres of pure nitro fun!! Had special pearl paint on it and black/white leather interior. Beatifull car to be in and if you ever get the chance to drive one, then do...even if you're not a merc fan ! So in our parking lot no there is my crap Audi and his 2 parked nose to nose. i've got a pic and if i can work out how to load it up i will.... Gotta say, after being in that merc it rates as one of my favourite "modern "cars....Still cant beat the ols 1600E's though !!!
What's the tax like on those NUTSY? Reckon they wouldn't be too easy on the old CO2! Trevor Sergeant would have a kitten!
The Alfetta back then was famous (IIRC) for being RWD with a rear gear box for weight distribution. Only drove it once as the owner was too out of it on ***** to drive, fantastic balance and roadholding on twisty hilly roads. Very popular with the Police and Carabinieri where it was replacing the old Giulias.
Judging by Taxis in Africa and elsewhere in the developing world this has to be the best car of all time: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_W123
I'm lucky in that during the summer I drive wedding cars for my mate ( alleventslimos.com for a shameless plug) it's only a small fleet. he does have the previously mentioned mas which is very popular but the sweetheart of the bunch is a Daimler ds420 it's 30 years old and apart from a few minor rust bubbles it's a stunning car. I love driving it.
I ain't a petrol head and I ain't owned one but I think they look great! I know you're a Mercedes man these days Wubba. I remember you and Oddball hard at it over his Saab fixation. What did you call it? An architects car? Sadly the Swedish giant has since stopped trading. I like something a little different to the norm. An Alfa probably wouldn't have the same appeal for me if I lived in Italy for example. Like, I really like the Lexus IS (only the look of it as I've not driven one) but its more to do with the fact that I don't see many of 'em knocking around than owte else.
Yes I run a 12 year old E class estate with 187,000 miles as my daily driver and it runs like clockwork. Well engineered and reliable. Plus no one gives me any grief unlike a BMW I once owned when I got non stop abuse Never saw the appeal of a Saab Sadly like amotherwatfordr I too have a mild car addiction problem but mines more at the quantity over quality end of the market
Always fancied one of those Presidential Mercedes favoured by African Dictators of the seventies or an armoured Alfa just for the look, the first in black and the second in dark blue of course. please log in to view this image
The plot thickens. If harpenden, then maybe - my wife went to st Dominic's then roundwood park. Her 3 sisters all went to John F kennedy in Hemel Hempstead.
I went to adeyfield school in Hemel before it burnt down with one of my brothers and my other brother went to long dean for a while before my parents moved to Camden. I was mates with the O'Sullivan kids and all 5 of them went to JFK I'm sure my mates wife was mates with bills daughter. We used to meet up at various pubs in harpenden but it was a long time ago and my memory is shot
What a motor though. Without motorcycle outriders it's just not the same look though. Last time I lived in Africa the President (pbuh!) favoured an entourage of armoured Pajeros followed by a pick up towing a cannon and an armoured car!
