Fair enough you're probably right. I actually misread what you said and thought you were saying Bale was the one that normally laces it so I thought I was giving you the benefit of the doubt by saying one or two in the video were laces :D

In the video I think Bale's just practicing hitting different areas of the goal with the same type of contact(inside boot), I remember him scoring one for Wales recently(against Belgium, I think) where he hit it with his laces so I think it's something he can do too.

Yeah, I think Ronaldo gets it to dip using his laces to somehow put a ridiculous amount of top spin on the ball. I seem to remember he also said that he lines up the valve of the ball to get full contact which adds to the ball wobbling in the air. It's a bit scary for a keeper now when he lines up a freekick, he can leather it at a corner, hit the dipping, "wobbling" one we talked about and also hit it with his sidefoot pretty much anywhere in the goal with the same action.

I'm surprised more don't try the CR7 approach, including the valve thing. I think he plays a percentages game there by actually aiming for the middle, then any slight deviation from that distance will take it near a post. With the unpredictable movement its hard to imagine you could hit anything you aimed at. Hope that makes sense! :)

There's a Thornton Heath approach to taking free kicks?

Our EL opponents Lyon got knocked out of their FA Cup equivalent by a third tier side! PSG only just squeaked past a 5th tier side 4-3!

I see Ryan Nelsen has left QPR.

he's gone to be head coach in Canada @ Toronto FC.

    Good luck to him.

Coventry fans causing damage that their club has to pay for? Very clever. <doh>

At least 22 of their coaches arrived at the ground over 2 hours before kick off. Guess they spent these 2 hours getting boozed up and then took it out on our facilities.

They were certainly singing rather well long before kick off. The booze might explain it. When I ordered a lager I endered up getting a can of London Pride. The Coventry lads have probably never come across proper beer.

It took me a little while to figure out why they were singing 'there's only one Gary Mabbutt'. It was quite apt to bring him on as a guest at half time.

It's not really that bad is it? We get the toilets refurbed FOC (stop it out of their share of the gate) and make a fat profit out of the beer. It's got Daniel Levy's finger prints all over it.

Our 4th round cup tie against either Leeds or Birmingham has been chosen for TV. It will be played on Sunday 27 January, 2pm kick off and will be on ESPN.

I'd forgotten that YV. That's bloody inconsiderate of the TV people. There's 4 televised cup games that weekend, so there's no excuse why we can't still play on the Saturday. Let's hope some commonsense is shown and and the Norwich game is put back 24 hours.

Yeah, the FA and Premier League should surely be going out of their way to make sure that we're encouraged to field as strong of a side as possible, especially since we're on the box.

In other news, according to the DM United will have a 38th consecutive televised FA Cup tie if they beat West Ham. It's no wonder they're the most supported team in the country if the broadcasters don't have to show any level of equality in picking games for live coverage.

    38 ???????!!!!!

Is this true ?? That is astonishing. It's also appalling in many ways. I remember when ITV got involved with the FAC and they made big noises about how they were going to share the TV cash around by showing games involving the little clubs. To a certain extent they have done, but it seems to have dropped off a bit now and they're showing the same games again next week in the replays that they showed at the weekend, when they could easily have shown say Bournemouth at home to PL Wigan where there is a real prospect of an upset.

But 38 consecutive games ?? That's made me grizzly that has.

It appears so. I totally agree with what you're saying, I think it's quite damning of the loss of interest in the FA Cup that people just want to watch Manchester United and wouldn't care so much about what could be potentially a better tie involving less fashionable tie. It's a shame because there's still plenty of excitement and enthusiasm for the Fa Cup in the lower leagues but the broadcasters only care if they're drawn against United(or Liverpool) and they've got a part time roofer who's a fan of United that they can do a piece on.

I don't know if 38 consecutive games is true, but Utd keep drawimg PL teams away and as a result, the game is bound to be one of the stand-out fixtures of the round, whichever way you look at it.
