I would have thought that RB is one position we are happy with at the moment with Clyne one of our top performers.

Saints can only tie up Luke Shaw to a 3 year pro-contract when he turns 18. Before that, he can leave and the fee is decided by tribunal unless the clubs agree a compensation fee.

Shaw isn't 18 til July.

I put that in bold so perhaps it will sink in for fans and any watching media types.

I thought it was 17? Remember hearing a lot about the possibility Walcott could leave because he isn't 17 yet, but that was never an issue with 17 year old Bale or Chamberlain.

Plus the three-year part? JWP signed a five year deal when he turned 18.

17 years old when not in full-time education, 18 otherwise I believe. Don't know the case with Shaw.

I'm putting this media talk of us be interested in Butland again, as nothing more than lazy journalism.

We've signed Gazzaniga now. Due to his age, he must be in our thoughts for the long term. And on the basis that I find it slightly hard to believe that you'd signed a young, inexperienced goalkeeper to be your long-term number two (Nicola and Nigel have seen first hand what use a back-up keeper with no proper football under his belt is, with Bart), I think Gazza is in our thoughts as our long-term number one. So signing Butland makes no sense.

Moreover, our most immediate and pressing issue to Premiership survival. And unless you can say that Butland is a real top keeper right this minute (and I don't think you can), then I don't see how he can help us that much. I'm sure he'd improve us - 100s of keepers would do that - but to what extent?

As for Astori, I've never seen him play so can't really comment. But I guess you don't play for Italy (especially as a defender) unless you're pretty decent.

If we can't get a top flight quality keeper from abroad we need to throw everything we have at friedel. Yeh hes signed a new keeper make it a loan give them a recall option if loris gets injured and make it massively financially incentive for them. I know its not in our style but the guys top top quality he kept the french national keeper out of the squad for a long period, had we had him all season I reckon we would have another 10 points now and we'd probably not even be talking about relegation. The financial gains for staying up justify splashing out on him I really think he could make all the diffrerence.

Who are the keepers out there then?

Man Utd - De Gea, Lindegaard
Man City - Hart, Pantillimon, Wright
Spurs - Lloris, Friedel, Gomes, Cudicini
Chelsea - Cech, Hilario, Turnball
Arsenal - Szczesny, Mannone, Fabianski
Everton - Howard, Mucha
WBA - Foster, Myhill
Stoke - Begovic, Sorensen, Nash
Swansea - Vorm, Tremmel
Liverpool - Reina, Jones, Doni
Norwich - Ruddy, Bunn, Rudd
West Ham - Jaaskelainen, Henderson
Sunderland - Mignolet, Westwood
Fulham - Schwarzer, Stockdale
Newcastle - Krul, Harper, Elliot
Wigan - Al Habsi, Pollit
Villa - Guzan, Given, Marshall
Reading - Federici, McCarthy, Taylor
QPR - Cesar, Green, Cerny

Championship - Marshall, Jakupovic, Steele, Speroni, Schmeichel, Almunia, Camp, Forde, Kenny, Kuszczak, Fielding, Gilks, Grant, Bogdan, Robinson, Smithies, Ikeme, Hamer, Loach, Butland, Kirkland, Heaton, Olejnik, Steele.

I guess it's quite easy to see why Friedel and Robinson have been linked to us in recent weeks. When you remove the unrealistic ones, it hardly leaves a brilliant list of possibilities.

Westwood? Sorensen? Brad Jones? Camp?

If we get a keeper I'm pretty sure it will be from abroad. Friedel was a possibility but I don't see why Spurs would give him a new deal to just loan him out at the first opportunity.

How is Scott Carson getting on in Turkey?

No thanx to Sorenson, Jones, Camp or Westwood.

A CB and maybe a LB could be bought for cover.

GK is not a position we need right now, and Butland isn't exactly doing great...

Difficult to judge a keeper when the rest of the team is doing badly...

I'd say it's easier to judge a keeper when the rest of the team is doing badly, because you get more opportunities to see what he can do.
