admittedly, when i first saw it we really expected the whistle to go and despite celebrating were confused as anyone else in the ground. however, on seeing it again green just has to do better. he has to hold his ground or at least punch it away. scooping it into your own net is doing no favours. yes ive seen fouls given for less, but then you could argue why are fouls never given for attackers when defenders have their arms wrapped around them in the area? we see that countless times. the game has to be a bit tougher for me, let physical strength play a part. if green has been pushed over, then yes, no question, it is a foul. there has to be some consistency really. i see your point about us taking a while to get going. ive seen us 5 times away from home this season and i can tell you we look nervous, reluctant to push forward and yesterday was no different. a moment of magic and a howler gave us the goals yesterday and that says it all. we dont score that many away from home and lukaku had numerous chances to put the game to bed which he didnt take, was exactly the same at newcastle and wigan. yeah i think we have it right, jeremy peace is a financially prudent guy who doesnt spend big on players nor wages. we have very little debt and look for cheap gems abroad, such as mulumbu and yacob, who cost very little but have done us wonders.
Rostle, can't you use paragraphs? Put simply, it was a foul but still, Green was woeful and any other keeper would have sorted that situation out.
I would also add that West Brom looked like they were in second gear for a lot of the time which is testament to the fact that they are definitely a significantly better side than yesterday's performance showed. Rangers huff and puff and get nowhere, WBA huff and puff and make it happen. What iIm trying to say is your huff and puff is better than our huff and puff...or something.
sorry swords, that was rather epic. will do in the future chaz, i like to think we play attractive football, giving each game a good go. however, i fear sometimes we lack that clinical edge needed to kill off games. as i said, we had 2 or 3 good opportunities that werent taken. had it been 4 or 5-1 then the penalty shout wouldve meant very little.
Have a read mate: http://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/footba...o_run_your_football_club_–_opposition_profile
Good account Col as ever. Minor points of difference. Firstly, I though we started brighter than they did in the first 5 mins and then it dwindled as you describe it. Secondly, I did not see them as in complete complete control throughout. In fact, I think I saw us tackle the ball away from them more often than we usually do but it was still not that much I guess. It was a penalty - absolute and only a blind man would deny it. I thought our efforts in the last 10mins, depsite their mammoth time wasting, made us good for the draw. Another sad day for QPR fans.
that was in no way meant to sound like West Brom are only huff and puff. Apologies. I think they play some very decent football. What i meant was that when needs be they can put in a workmanlike performance, like yesterday, and get a result - the sign of a good side. I agree about the other West Brom chances but because I think it was definitely a foul on Green, I think that goal changed the whole complexion of the game. At 2 - 0 our heads dropped significantly ergo you had more chances (not saying you wouldnt have had them anyway of course) Anyway, you see what I'm driving at I'm sure!
fair enough. yeah thats very true about a workmanlike performance! the fact we got a second goal indeed changed momentum, much like cisse pulling one back afterwards, having us biting our nails! i think regarding the second goal, we have our own opinions. as baggies, we will argue fortune stood his ground, as rangers fans, you will think fortune barged into green. eitherway, the goal stood, and was enough to win us the game.
They do like to waste time when ahead though, and it makes me feel sick that people who have struggled to get to the ground, paid a big wedge to watch and sat in complete lack of comfort are insulted and disrespected so totally. I know why they do it and I'm sure Baggies fans are delighted, but this is just another nail in the coffin of this ridiculous 'industry'.
You're a reasonable poster so I won't pick an argument but 'standing your ground' implies just that i.e. not moving backwards! We can agree that most perspectives are biased.
i mean not intending to cause a foul and challenging for the oncoming ball. green is well over 6 foot and should have the strength to at least punch for the ball. it was very weird and slightly dodgy how he scooped it back into his own net. i can see how you feel incensed though, we football fans like to defend our teams in these situations, and thats 2 games in a row we have got a little lucky with a goal. nonetheless, we had a couple of half penalty shouts in the second half, but really ridgewells was the most blatant shout of them all. we got incredibly lucky.
The game is almost destroyed already mate. The refusal of the authorities to do anything about the whole scale cheating in the last decade or so has made sure of that.
Some interesting differences of opinion on here. For me though, West Brom did indeed out-class us for most of that game and they never really got into top gear. We really were awful! I think we need to just attack, all out in every game now to try to turn things around. What do we have to lose?
I normally agree with your reports Col, but completely disagree with this one. They were never "in control" at any point during the game, and we were the better side. Their first goal was their first shot on target, and in the first half they were worse than we were. I actually missed the final 5 minute "bombardment" from us, but still thought we were better overall. There was a marked improvement from the Newcastle performance, although at times i felt it was like playing with 10 men with cisse in the side.
As I said, it never fails to amaze me how two people can see the same game so differently mate. You really thought we were the better side? Fair enough. We'll have to agree to differ.
QPR 18 shots WBA 12, QPR corners 14 WBA 9 (including three in quick succession when the first was not a corner) Possession pretty much fifty-fifty. West Brom closed us down well, they knew who the dangermen were and snuffed them out. First goal was a speculative shot from distance that was well placed, fair play, but it was their first shot on target and totally against the run of play. Second goal was a blatant foul and anyone who says otherwise is an idiot. Our goal was quality, Mbia with a superb through ball and Cisse with a quality finish. The onslaught from that point was like Custers last stand but to no avail as the inept Foy and his even more inept lino failed to spot a clearcut handball from a few yards away. I hear the linesman says it was "gloomy" in that corner! Strike him off if he cant see that. So I fail to join in with this WBA arselicking thread and if their supporter cant admit that the goal was a blatant foul then he can **** off to specsavers too! For the second time this season we have "at times" played West Brom off the park....fact.....and for the second time got nothing from it! You lot need to get behind the team and see some of the positives...........bring on Liverpool, if Stoke and Villa can beat them then so can we!
I think we are in danger Col of never seeing the good things we do. The move for the goal was sublime. They didnt batter us yet they are top six. Their keeper also pulled off a stunning save in injury time. If we think we have not improved under Redknapp then we are in trouble, I think we have but there is still a lot of work to do. Hopefully Taarabt will remain and Zamora return to fitness quickly, we have a chance but we also need to get some breaks. We deserved a point yesterday and didnt get it! If we keep going to games with this level of negativity then we have no chance!
I do now in heinsight think it was a foul, but i also think green made a real hash of it and didnt help himself. i also think the ruling on goalkeepers needs to be looked over, think they are exceedingly overprotected. i dont agree 'played off the park'. at the hawthorns we looked the better team and got those crucial early goals, when we went to sleep it nearly cost us 2 points in the process. yesterday though, it was very evenly balanced. both teams looked pretty poor, as i've said before at home we look confident and up for it. clarke has shown on the road he is taking no gambles. a very rigid looking team with very little desire to go forward. as well as this, we are happy to timewaste to try and hang on to our victory. with regards to the pen that should've been, no questions(sound like a broken record) but we couldve had one as fabio handled it in the box just ten mins or so before
