He seems to have being playing (and scoring) regularly enough for Ipswich. His wages are obviously big but it's hardly crippling. You could set the money aside for a years wages and it'd be like spending a couple of million on a player. I'd much rather pay ã2m for JB for the next year, then ã1.3m for McLean to run around a bit.
As we're already stuck with McLean, I'd rather look at who might be available this summer (using who we're already supposed to be signing).

*Out of contract and hasn't been offered a new deal, if QPR have money to spend this summer he could well be let go.

It's swings and roundabouts depending on who we can bring in, just most people thinking we can get better value for ã45k/wk (or even a 50% contribution as used in the example) when you consider the overall effect on the team of the players coming in.
