As we're already stuck with McLean, I'd rather look at who might be available this summer (using who we're already supposed to be signing).

    Team 1:

    Stewart, Koren, Danns, Rose
    Helguson*, Fryatt

    Subs: including McLean

*Out of contract and hasn't been offered a new deal, if QPR have money to spend this summer he could well be let go.

    Team 2:

    Stewart, Bullard, Danns, Rose
    McLean, Fryatt

    Subs: including Koren

It's swings and roundabouts depending on who we can bring in, just most people thinking we can get better value for £45k/wk (or even a 50% contribution as used in the example) when you consider the overall effect on the team of the players coming in.

Not without throwing money at it, no. As was discussed in that other thread before it was derailed by the Swedish fella, QPR have spent big and reaped the rewards. There just seems to be too many ex PL like Oldham and Swindon where you think "****, they were in the PL?" I'd hate for us to become one of those.

All this talk about McLean is academic anyway, Simpson and Fryatt are our best 2 forwards and I expect we'll see another one in soon. My point was simply that Bullard's talent is worth paying £2m for, but McLean isn't worth anything like what we paid for him.

Maybe we'll get the Danns deal tied up soon and he'll show us he's every bit as good as Bullard and end this debate. But since he doesn't score a 70-yard volley every week like JB, i doubt even he would be as good.

When Mick McCarthy went to Wolves one of the first things he had to do was reduce the wage bill drastically due to the end of their parachute payments.

The amount we're spending should be enough, it's now about redistributing the spending so we're in a better overall position. (for example your idea for using the Koren fee to subsidise Bullard's wages)

Unfortunately I saw TWF's comment about us dropping into League One eventually, he should be glad that this didnt happen last season when the likes of him and the other plastics were moaning and showing a total lack of understanding of the position we were in, be grateful that we have Championship football next season muppet!

On a more positive note, whats going on with Mouyokolo at Wolves and Myhill at West Brom, these are two players who have shown they can do a job for us and have the right attitudes. I suppose the wages are going to be inflated but I'd happily swap the likes of Bullard for Myhill, although I doubt very much that Woy will have the likes of the ginger waster at his club going on previous experiences!

I've no idea where this relegation thing came from, at no point last season did we have a squad that looked like it could be relegated. Let's be serious.

I can only guess what the reply is but I hope you start backing the lads and manager a bit more next season and put behind your immature dislikes and prejudices, I know you're only a kid but you're as negative and cynical as many a washed-up old man, theres time to change yet TWF, UTT!

That's not relegation, that's the position below where we were in our first season-end in the PL, it's all relative!!!!!

The quality of squad was always good enough to stay up.

Nah, at no point in this season did we have one of the three worst squads. The only thing that took us near the relegation zone was poor management.

We may not have had one of the three worst squads on paper, but the performance on the pitch put us there! And the poor management had been prior to that, i.e., Duffen and Brown which had started the previous season, and bad contract negotiations in that, and the prior couple of years.
