Mike is no fool, he'll have get out clauses. 8 years is probably just a public stunt to portray stability.

Bad bet though because we'll turn it around. Better off on Petit Ecuyer at Kempton in 3.40 today <ok>

Yet he lost to Keegan in court? Of course he'll have to pay a huge chuck of his wages but if I were Mike I'd just give him the money to spend in January instead
 
Alan Pardew is now 16/1 to be canned, the longer he is here the more the odds go against him, it's when and not if now.

Sorry mate but this is a very uneducated response, we currently have 3 first team players out...Cabaye, Ben Arfa & Taylor, for the majority of games we've had 1 or 2 out at most.

Our current style of football is atrocious on the eye and getting terrible results.

Pardew actually thinks we deserved to win last night <laugh>...we deserved a draw at best!

Yes but we've still had about 13 injuries so far this season, and players coming in and out, in and out, in and out require changes in tactics and having to rotate constantly. Plus certain players just haven't peformed.

We've only had a fully fit Tiote for a few games, and we really need his presence to make our better style of football work.

We need our best players and players to perform for our 4-3-3 system to work, simple as.

Sensible approach for me and we need to look at the bigger picture for me, whilst also looking at what history tells us about knee jerking into a managerial merry go round. We've done that in the past and it ended up in one place. How long has he had, 2 years? Its nothing in managerial terms if you ignore the ridiculous modern penchant for sackings at the first sign of trouble. And that is what this is, its the first time we've hit a real rocky patch. We'll be stronger for it when we come out the other side.

Your last sentence should read "if we come out of it" and not "when". If we come out of it then yes I agree, we'll be stronger for this rough third of (not far off of a half) a season.

However there are very few encouraging signs that this will turn around any time soon. A victory against Wigan will prove a start, but given our fixtures we could be in the bottom three come the new year.

At the moment we have three sets of supporters, those that have complete faith in Pardew, those that are beginning to waver and those that want Pardew gone now. I respect the opinions of all three camps, but for those with complete faith in Pardew, how long do we leave it? If we're in the bottom 3 in March do we still stick with him? It could be too late by then, or for you guys does he get the whole season regardless?

Just trying to see how far your loyalty will extend if no improvements are made throughout the season...

Not really an "if" for me, but it depends completely on your feelings about the overall health of the club. We have not a had a rough third of the season either. Performance wise we have but its only the last 4 where results have been rough. We made a solid if unspectacular start up to West Ham. Hopefully we bottomed out at Southampton, Stoke gave me plenty of hope we are about to turn.

If we lost every game between now and March, I think you'd have little choice. Otherwise he has 5 years for me. If that included a relegation, I honestly still wouldn't push unless he'd clearly lost the players. There are no signs of that, and I see little reason to think relegation is likely at this stage. Everyone has different expectations. I expect effort, commitment and I do expect the team to play a certain way overall. But I never panic in bad trots because I've seen the results if you do so many times before. People are so hung up on PL football, but to be honest I'm more bothered about stability and the club having a feel of there being a long term plan. Pardew is not perfect but I do think he has something about him which will turn this round, and I do think he works well with the board, staff, players and is trying his nuts off for the fans.

In reality though mate, the only way of achieving the long term stability you (we) crave is to remain in the Premiership. I don't think we'll get relegated, but I'm not going to say that on current form & performances it's not a possibility because the truth of it is that there is a chance we could go down.

With regards to wanting the team to play a certain way, I believe all fans want that and that's my main gripe at the moment. Allardyce got lambasted by us fans for his shoddy football, he was hounded out of his job by us if truth be told, yet Pardew's style of football is no different and probably less effective if we're honest.

I don't actually think MA & DL are even remotely considering dismissing Pardew either, which in a way does render conversations such as these a bit pointless. As you've said he works well with the board, Carr etc, which is a good thing on the whole, but does have it's drawbacks in that sometimes I think he addresses the fans via the press with one arm tied behind his back so to speak. On occasions, such as the summer window he was let down by MA & DL, instead of confirming this to the media he "bigged up" the fact that we hadn't lost any players and labelled the window a success. However now things aren't looking too rosy, he's now saying we need more players in January, it comes across as a bit weak for me and undermines Pardew a bit.
 
Pardew does have a habit of making statements he then has to back track from. As you quite rightly point out Sir Bobby, a prime example was the last transfer window. Add to that the complete mug he was made to look, over the Andy Carroll sale, and most recently the firm stance he was supposedly taking over Nile Ranger, and then heyho, Ranger takes to the field for the first team.
The man does himself no favors and as you say comes across as weak, mind you MA and Lambsarse don't help him out much either, as l feel that both have hung him out to dry on occasions.

Definitely this, sometimes he's had to make the best out of the very bad hands he's been dealt by MA & DL.

As much as MA & DL have done for the club off the field (balancing the books etc) they are still very robotic in terms of their approach to the club. It's run like a normal business, but a football club is far from a normal business. Most annoyingly all of the little "risks" we take are always the thrifty option, selling Carroll with no back up, not strengthening in the summer etc etc. Why can't we ever take a "risk" where we pay the extra million for Debuchy, Douglas, De Jong, those risks can pay off a whole lot more on the field, which in turn will reap it's rewards off the field too.

To be honest we'll have to agree to disagree here. I don't believe Pardew sets out to go long. He definetly likes a mix which I have no trouble with, but our style of football at present is down to a combination of factors rather than Pardew wanting to play that way. We have seen in the 2nd half of last season, Pardews preferred style. It is shorter and more patient than it is at present. But the nerves have kicked in now on top of the lack of confidence and you have to ride that out at times.

With regards to what managers say in the press etc I've never really been that interested (as you may have noticed!), its all a bit of a game. The litmus test for any boss is getting players to play for you in my opinion. They seem quite happy to do that. Obviously you have to show tactical nous too and he can still improve there in certain aspects. But there isn't anyone out there who'd come to us I can see doing any better and I'm a patient man basically when it comes to football and Newcastle. I think fans talk a good policy at times when things are going well, but I think fans panic way too quickly when they're not.

He'll always be hindered by MA and DL, its just their nature. Bottom line is they are here to stay as far as we can see so we need a manager they can work with.
 
OK maybe not a lot of players out but I did read on here that, this was the fans angle on why your'e results have been poor just recently.

I look at it this way.. when fit, you have a far better squad than us (Stoke) IMO anyway. It does not take much to turn things around given the quality availabe to Pardew. You hammered us twice last season, with basically the same squad of players. Maybe, Wednesday's game would hiave turned out differently had you had a fully fit squad. Good luck for the rest of the season.

Good debate going on with you guys, I'm not going to get involved but both sides are putting good points forward.

I get what your saying with regards to the confidence of the players affecting their ability to play "keep ball" so to speak, but it comes down to the manager's philosophy for me.

I'm going to use Martinez and Wigan as an example here, I know it's no secret I'm a big fan of his but they are a good example to use in order to help put my point across...

Last season they went on a long losing streak (probably happens 2/3 times a season for them), but you never see them defer from their carpet football style. During their losing streak they were playing 4-4-1-1 and 4-3-3, in order to assist the team to keep the ball and stick with his footballing philosophy Martinez changed formation to 3-6-1/3-5-2 (whichever you prefer to call it). It gave the team an extra body in midfield, an extra option to pass to meaning keeping the ball became easier and caught teams such as Arsenal, ourselves & Man Utd off guard.

It will have to be a case of agreeing to disagree for us, because for me Pardew could tweak the system to help adapt to a "keep the ball" game plan, players confidence plays a part in it, but so does Pardew and he's not currently doing enough to help the players play such a style in my opinion.
