I've had several looks at the gif... I think Colo was expecting Suarez to control it and he wanted to close down fast or at worse take a foul on that play. Suarez caught him by surprise with a quick pass and obviously Colo being a football player himself never wants to hurt a fellow professional, tucks his leg under him and his momentum takes Suarez out. Red Card? From the momentum and Suarez's reaction, it's definitely possible to be given by some refs.

It's pointless arguing whether Colo should have been sent off because if he had made contact it would have been and I think he meant to, however the ref was terrible when dealing with there teams fouls.

We also should have a had a penalty at 1-0 and as usual got **** all!!! dont give me marginal contact or harsh as Sammy was in on goal, there was contact, he went down and that my sons is a penalty.

he missed ha ha by miles ??? ok then what about sterlings un booked two footed studs up challenge on Cisse? I think Colo pulled out but initial inted was ther, however I feel let down for the ref not seeing a blatemnt penalty at 1-0 and over all he gave us nothing all afternoon.

You were outplayed and outbattled for the whole game, it's only our piss poor finishing that lets us down, the ref let both teams down on occasion but Colo was deservedly sent off for intent even though there was no contact.

In game the referee must act on each incident in isolation, punishing the foul as it merits. That is what happened. Consistency is an issue, but it's rather immaterial. Every referee in the league would have sent Colo off. That's just how it is.

On other flash points...

- Raheem should have been booked, for sure. His youth got him away with it.
- Sahin could have been booked, also. Few big tackles. The incident you're all talking about was during a passage of play with several diving tackles if I remember? Hard to say about it until I've seen it again.
- The Skrtel challenge wasn't a penalty, and fair play to Ameobi for not looking one.

<laugh> Oooooh... So we just needed to playing our youngsters so they could go in hard... Got it! Didn't realise that was a rule <ok>

To be honest, to me Ameobi's wasn't a penalty, and Suarez should have had one in the first 5 mins, the ref let the game flow, but missed clear fouls several times. The ones in the corner on Ben Arfa and Jonas was blatant.

Overall, delirious with a point, we'll gubb that team at our place I reckon!

Did I say I agreed with it? He should have been booked. Please read <ok>

Newcastle tactically have been set up absolutely Sunday league standard this season.

4-4-2, Keeper lumps it towards (not to) the forward(s) and play from their if possible.

If we don't see enough of the ball apply yourselves physically to try in vain to wear out the opposition.

My message to Pardew would be if you want to manage like a Sunday League football coach I'm sure one would love to have you.

You have to love Suarez's reaction to a poorly timed challenge that made no contact other than Colo's hands on his back.

Hit by a sniper in the stands again! David Moyes can feel well and truly vindicated at least.

This one was more compelling (with the benefit of different angles and in slow motion) than Tiote's against Sunderland but if we're going to start handing out cards for 'what MIGHT have happened HAD they made contact' then the game is doomed.
We had 3 or 4 against Liverpool players today, where contact was actually made and not a yellow card in sight. Funny that isn't it?

But despite the ref's best efforts we still grabbed a point so he can swivel...

First 10 mins belonged to Liverpool, the rest of the first half was evenish. The second half we lost Ba, so withdrew and let you have pointless possession (you were so toothless Suarez's goal probably caused mass heart-attacks amongst your fans), before Colo's terrible play let you in.

Don't kid yourself into thinking you've turned a corner, though. We're not playing well, but battled to a point. Always thought Liverpool would finish 6/7th inspite of the start. Think it's more like 9th/10th after that game. We'll be around the same area unless we improve.

Think that's harsh when we're away from home against Liverpool who traditionally thrash us. We set up similar to how we did vs Swansea last season, and it almost worked.

At home we should be playing with more belief in our technical abilities, no doubt!

Re: Colo incident.

This is simple, he went in to take Suarez out, raises his studs and then thinks before retracting the challenge but plows into Suarez.

He wasn't carded for the challenge he was carded for lunging with his studs showing.

Contact or not that is a straight red in the eyes of the ref.

You're a good poster but seriously, take the black and white specs off! You were played into the ground for the majority of the game.

Not convinced as we were looking good for 15 mins in the game, however I admit the forst 10 mins we Liverpool looked like they would win.

For me the game changed when Ba and Cabs had to go off and then we were denied a stone wall penalty before you equalised1 obviously our aim was to let you come looking for the goal and hit on the counter but the sending off killed us.

You only have Sterling and Saurez that looked dangerous today in fact I never thought you would score.

Seen the Colo tackle again, there's not need for it. I wish fellow fans would be honest about it. #NUFC

Well, if you read my post again, and add up the time (45+10 = most of the game... and the rest was even), you'll see I agree that you had most of the game. Chances? Shelvey 2, Raheem 1, Suarez goal... Us? Cisse 1, Sammy 1, Ben Arfa 2, Cabaye goal... Pretty even aren't they ;)

Stoke's former Liverpool and Newcastle striker Michael Owen on Twitter: "Not having Coloccini's red card at all. He didn't touch him and to say there was intent is laughable. Let me tell you, he kicks a moving ball a thousand times a day and doesn't miss it once. If he wanted to connect with a standing leg then he wouldn't have missed. He pulls out at the last minute and doesn't touch him. Not having that's a red at all."

No there was not a need for it <ok>

No need for the over-reaction from the Liverpool fans either <whistle>

Looking at it again, the ref, got it spot on and the right decision was given... He was never going to end Suarez's career with that tackle, it was just naughty. Now everyone breath!

Liverpool were getting all decsions all afternoon I mean look at dsome of the fouls again ffs.

The only reason Liverpool got anuthing was because our two best players had to come off

If Sterling and Saurez went off they would pull that excuse so so will I.

Played into the ground around the centre circle, Liverpool for all the possession never looked like scoring and it took an aimless ball up the pitch for RatBoy to control it with his arm and score is all they did all day. Was getting a bit bored watching the ball go sideways, sideways, 5 yard forward ball, 15 yards backwards ball, sideways , sideways and then a 40 hump into the channels then Suarez then throwing himself around looking for a free kick. The free kick comes in Newcastle clear easy, Liverpool get possesion, sideways, sideways, sideways, sideways backwards then a 30 yard hump to Suarez who then either controls it or gets a little breath on the back on falls over and so forth la de da de da. zzzzzzzzzzzzz
